Gov Herbert Maw declared Vernal will become a premier center of prehistoric culture as the new 250000 dollar Utah Field House of Natural History opens on East Main Street. He cited a billion years of geologic ages within 30 miles and plans for exhibits and more buildings. Aaron W. Tracy predicted a boulevard linking Dinosaur National Monument to the field house to lure visitors. Continued on page i.

Oil discovery spurs spudding near Vernal in Ashley Valley
Crain-Griffith Oil announces Thomas Hall No 1 well eight miles east of Vernal and eight miles east of the Ashley Valley discovery. J W Griffith, partner in a Longview firm, says the company has a farm-out from Rogers Lacy Inc for about 1100 acres in an L shaped block near Equity Oil Co discovery. He expects winter drilling to proceed. The rig is operated by the company.

Givens Funeral Held Monday In Maeser Chapel
Funeral services for James Albert Givens 63 Vernal resident were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Maeser ward chapel Vernal Utah. Givens died Thursday night in a local hospital. He was born June 30 1885 in Wallsburg Wasatch County to James Albert and Emma Maria Thacker Givens. He married Myrtle Wheeler and lived in Duchesne and Mt Emmons before moving to Vernal three years ago. He is survived by his widow and several children including Myrtle Victoria Givens who died in an automobile accident on Highway 40 Naples. sons Lawrence James George L Laona and Chloe all of Vernal and Varle Givens in the Army. A chorus sang Abide With Me and Beautiful Home with two duets In The Garden and Silver Haired Daddy of Mine. Speakers included Award Rigby Byron rich and John Thack. Burial was in Vernal Memorial Park after a grave dedication by Ernest Johnson Bishop.

GOP Woman Wins Trip To Hollywood
Mrs. Mae Samuels, treasurer of Uintah County Republican committee, appears to be the only Republican in the county to gain in the recent election.
