Windbreak Planting Advice From Utah State Experts
Raymond R. Moore of Utah State Agricultural College ext forester explains that a three row windbreak on two or three sides of a farm home can cut winter fuel needs by at least one third. He warns wind speeds of 20 mph skyrocket heat loss, while a 30 mph wind becomes 10 mph within 100 feet and 15 mph within 300 feet past the shelter. Details and trees from Clair R. Acord, county agent, and the college nursery are available, with ordering through the county office. The Panama rail line note appears as a separate fragment.

Utah Christmas Trees Must Bear Government Tags
A Sept. 28 regulation by the state board of forestry and fire control requires Christmas trees offered for sale in Utah to be tagged. Utah trees must bear tags and trees cut on Federal lands are acceptable. Vendors’ tags from other states are recognized to curb wasteful cutting and theft. Tags may be secured through the state board or county sheriff for a fee of $1 per 100 tags.
