Basin commission approves Echo Park and Flaming Gorge dams

In Salt Lake City a five state Colorado River basin meeting backed Echo Park and Flaming Gorge dam projects, aligning Utah with plans while also discussing Gunnison, Glen Canyon, and San Juan river developments. Paul C. Child Named to Be Conference Speaker

Paul C. Child, member of the general welfare committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be principal speaker at the Unita stake conference next Saturday and Sunday, announced Pres. Archie Johnson. Special emphasis on welfare work during the two days. At 8 p.m. Saturday films The Lord's Way and Welfare in Action will be shown at the Stake Center. Public invited. The conference opens Saturday at 6:20 p.m. with Pauythood officers meeting at the Stake Center. Regular meetings Sunday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the tabernacle. City Council to Meet Saturday in Vernal

Vernal council to hold a regular semimonthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the city office. Mayor H. Stringham announced the change due to National Reclamation Association meetings in Salt Lake City attended by Stringham, C. R. Hopkins, LeRoy Taylor and other council members.

Last Rites for Mrs Bennion 61 in Third Ward

Emma Allen Bennion 61 died Oct 27 after a seven year illness. Services Monday 2 p.m. at the Third Ward Stake Center, presided by Bishop Phil Watkins. Attendants included Jester Bingham, H Walter Woolky, Harmgn Sowards, Mrs Arthur Manwaring, and vocalists Mrs Bryce Erkysen and Miss Tyressa Hadlock. Born January 5 1888 in Moab, she moved to Ashley Valley at 12, married Ashley Bennion in 1917. Survived by husband, son Allan Bennion of Maeser, two grandchildren, four brothers Marion Ted Orson Ezra Allen, two nephews Dan Yall and Roland Bennion. Benediction by Dick Rust.

Senator Watkins To Speak Here At Uintah High School

United States Senator Arthur V. Watkins will visit Uintah high school on November 15. Principal Avard A. Rigby announced a series of political clinics statewide. He will open high schools, civic clubs, and meet various groups during the visit. A Monthly M.LA. Institute is set for Thursday November 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Stake Center per Superintendent Alvin Weeks. Burial was at Vernal Memorial Park with Swain Funeral Home handling arrangements. Bishop Watkins dedicated the grave.

Services Set For Sarah Jane Cook

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Jane Cook 69 who died Tuesday at Vernal will be held Friday at 2 pm at Ward Stake Center with Bishop Orion Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Vernal Memorial Park under Swain Funeral Home. Friends may call Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. She was born January 5 1880 in Little Cottonwood Salt Lake county daughter of Charles and Wartha Holmes. She married Charles Meadows in Vernal in July 1898 later divorced and about 20 years ago wed Reuben Cook. Survivors include daughter Mrs. Hatch son Charles A Meadows of Salt Lake City three brothers and two sisters 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Poll Promises Heaviest City Election in Vernal History

Voters in Vernal, Utah, show record registration with about 653 eligible voters, an increase of roughly 10 percent from two years ago. Registration agents cite heightened enthusiasm and phone inquiries as signs of a crowded election day, with campaigns by the Vernal Junior Chamber of Commerce and Utah high school students boosting turnout.
