Medals and Prizes Awarded in Club Work in Uintah County
The Boys and Girls club work in Uintah County surpassed all earlier years with strong exhibits and praise at the fair. County Agent S. Peterson and local merchants supported many prizes including two participation incentives: a $1 savings deposit from United State Bank and a club pin from Congressman Don B. Colton. Awards went to Calf Project Aston Lingham first with gold, Grace Adams second with silver and shoes, Elmer Holfeltz bronze for effort, and Ashley Co-op for shoes. Maeser Calf club received a Jersey bull calf valued at $250 from United State Bank. Pig Project Dan Redmond first gold, Gilbert Harrison second silver, LaRue Pickup third bronze. Bennett club won a Duroc Jersey boar pig valued $75 from United State Bank. Lamb Project Dee Manwaring first gold, Rambouillet ewe lamb from John N. Davis and Sons worth $35 went to Rowland Cook second silver, Evan Williams third bronze. The club also won a purebred Rambouillet buck lamb from John N. Davis and Sons. (Continued on page 8)

Fire destroys vacant John Odekirk house in Sunday blaze
At about 3 30 Sunday morning the unoccupied John Odekirk house in the same block burned rapidly with fire spreading from a suspected arson. Fire chief George H Harrison found crude oil and kerosene on multiple floors, a gas jug and kerosene near the scene, and a broken hydrant hindered immediate suppression. The property carried about 2000 dollars in insurance, with prior arson attempts noted last August when Art Gregory lived there briefly.

Mrs. Lucretia A. Miles Dies in Idaho Falls
Lucretia A. Miles, wife of the late W. A. Miles of Roosevelt, died Monday at L. D. 8 hospital in Idaho Falls after an operation. Born February 9, 1860, she was a Roosevelt pioneer who moved there ten years ago and later visited Payson, Utah. Survived by her father, seven brothers and sisters, and seven daughters including Donna V. Burgess and Martha J. Edwards. Funeral in Roosevelt set for Thursday at noon.

Timber Wolf Encounter Near Taylor Mountain Reported
Bert Evans of Vernal Bakery along with Harry Burton and Ed Hoart spent days on Taylor Mountain returning Sunday. They saw a large timber wolf at Davia Park and Evans struck the wolf but not fatally. The next day at Ted Pine Setting they tracked the wolf’s night resting place. Evans notes few coyotes in the area.

Will Attend Trial At Grand Junction
Clifford H B Johnson, released from his mission in June and employed at the Chevrolet Motor factory in Janesville Wisconsin, will be a government witness at the Grand Junction trial beginning November 5. Ercel Johnson, working in a Shel ton Washington lumber camp, will also testify along with about sixty witnesses from various areas. The case involves the 3 year old Blue TM mountain sheep killing near Vernal and the later sheep losses. Buellen Johnson, the father, plans to travel from Vernal to Grand Junction for the proceedings.

Central School Teachers Profit by Big Convention
The Vernal Central school teachers, fifteen in number, attended the UEA meeting in Salt Lake City last week and felt well repaid for their trip. Around 4,000 Utah teachers from counties statewide gathered to receive the education trend with lectures from professors from California, the University of Chicago, and Iowa. The Central teachers praised the convention and look forward to the next annual gathering, believing it improves their work and equalizes opportunities for smaller districts.

Fence Dispute Ends With Roosevelts Shot Man
Christy Anderson of Roosevelt was shot Saturday evening by J H Grans of Unalco during a fence dispute. The bullet pierced the right thigh. The feud has persisted for two years. Anderson is under Dr J E Morton care with feared complications. Evans was arraigned before Justice C W Smith and bound over to district court with a $1000 bond.
