Fire destroys historic Ouray Trading Post in Uintah County
A devastating blaze destroyed the Ouray Trading Post on the Green River near the Uintah County confluence with the Duchesne. The building housed the lone store on the Ouray Indian Reservation besides Fort Duchesne, serving hundreds of residents and trading buckskins and beaver hides. The Wardle family losses included priceless rugs and goods, with one injury reported as Lee Wardle struck by a post. The post office will continue from the Wardle home.

Remembering the old timers and their days
Readers from Chipley to Cleveland share memories of early comforts and daily life before modern conveniences. Nostalgia recalls candlelight, wood stoves, slow horses, hitching posts as street parking, and simple trades, contrasted with autos, electricity, and medical advances.
