The Silver Spurs Riding Club of Utah will join the Vernal Rodeo for three days June 26 27 and 28 with parades and events. Queen Norma Stan Carroll and attendants Gwen Woolley and Betty Atwood traveled to Salt Lake with TV appearances and plans to invite dignitaries for the Vernal show. Parade theme will recount Uintah Basin history with horse drawn floats scheduled for 10 am daily.

New Home for Searle's Appliance Ready July 1st

Utes Receive 2 Million in Oil Royalties
The Ute tribe began Tuesday paying 3200 to each enrolled member from oil lease bonuses while total royalties and bonuses near two million dollars. Rex Curry said about 200 members reside on the reservation with monthly royalties around seven thousand dollars from six wells in Roosevelt and Duchesne Pools. Transportation delays have kept current production low despite Duchesne rising as the state's top producer at times.

Weekend Auto Accidents Cause Heavy Damage
Two weekend auto incidents caused major property damage with no serious injuries. James E. Tate, 28, of Duchesne attempted a pass on a hillcrest and veered off the highway into a hillside, his new car a 600 mile model sustaining about 1200 dollars in damage. a reckless driving citation was issued. Sunday a 1941 Chevrolet coupe owned by Raymond Stone, 27, of Vernal was struck by a 1950 Kaiser sedan driven by Harvey F. Gillespie, 97, also of Vernal, near Glines chapel. Stone’s car sustained 300 dollars damage and Gillespie’s 800 dollars. Stone was cited for improper left turn and lacking Utah license, operating on a California license. Patrolman Hatch notes improving driving and increased traffic enforcement in the region.

Moon Lake Electric Cooperative District based in Altamont Duchesne County has hired Clyde B. Kennedy of San Francisco Engineering to survey sites for a new dam and hydroelectric plant. The announcement, made in Salt Lake City by W L McDonnell, notes the cooperative serves Duchesne and Uintah counties in Utah and Moffat County in Colorado. The Kennedy firm recently completed a master sewage plan for Salt Lake City.

Last Rites Held Tuesday For John Hodgkingox
Last rites were held Tuesday for John Hodgkingox, a retired farmer who died Saturday night in Uintah county hospital after a lingering illness. Bishop C Laurence Fox conducted the services at the chapel with prayer by Lewis S Gardiner and music by Dorothy Jolley. A mixed quartet sang Sometime We’ll Understand, with solos and additional quartet numbers by local vocalists. Early Friday morning the American Legion Post No 11 will tour Vernal cemeteries placing flags and poppy wreaths on every veteran grave. At 10:30 a short service with silence and a firing squad salute will occur at Vernal Cemetery, then Maeser at 11:00 and Rock Point at 11:30. Legion members in charge are Vern McCarrells and Carl Haws at Vernal, Junius Hackl Ing and J. S. Milburn at Maeser, and Hubert S. Hatch and Francis Lennox at Rock Point. If a grave is missed, contact a Legion member so all veterans receive care in years to come.
