Uintah High to award 78 diplomas Friday night

Uintah High School will honor 78 graduates with diplomas Friday at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. The commencement theme Bridge Building emphasizes character construction to span life’s current and guide a lasting generation. The principal Avard Rigby released the graduates list naming Keith Adams through Guyla York and others.

Plans Made for Reclamation Golden Jubilee

The Utah State Chamber of Commerce executive association formed a committee to aid in Utah Golden Jubilee celebrations of reclamation. Frank Ward, president, said the meeting was in Ogden. The jubilee marks 50 years since the Reclamation Act signed June 17, 1902, and 105 years irrigation has been practiced in Utah. Committees were named to study water pollution and draft a law for a publicity department to be presented at the next legislature. Ward joined the U S chamber of commerce board of directors. An institute to design a curriculum for Whittier College meeting June 8-14 at Whittier, California was planned.

Fire Suppression Training School Planned in Utah

A cooperative forest and range fire suppression training school will be held at White Rocks Utah on May 27. Men from Duchesne Uintah and Daggett counties will review the fundamentals of forest and range fire suppression and plan to combat any forest fire situation that may arise in the northeast? Paris during the summer.

Carter Names New Location For Deep Test

Carter Oil Co. announced plans to drill a 9500-41 test of the Wasatch formation about three miles northwest of Duchesne Utah in Duchesne County. The wildcat well No. 1 Joseph HM Smith will be SESE 16 35 5W in the Stand ard Oil Co. of New Jersey Flat Mesa project.

University of Utah Leader Speaks at Uintah High Baccalaureate

A. Ray Olpin president of the University of Utah was guest speaker at the Uintah High School Baccalaureate in Vernal. He urged students to apply four questions to each decision focusing on truth fairness goodwill and benefit. The program included student scripture readings and choral music as Mrs. Olpin attended with him. Separately, insect control efforts against Mormon crickets were reported near the Uintas with plane spraying over Diamond Mountain and Green River slopes to curb a potential infestation. County and federal agencies supported the operation, aiming to finish cleanup after mid June.

Flood Aidin Uintah Approved By Government

Flood relief for Uintah residents approved and available through the Flood Loan program. Eligible property damage from the week’s flood allows aid for crops irrigation systems and damaged property. Leota and Ouray areas saw heavy losses. loans may be arranged via local banks or lending agencies. Roy den V. Cancer Quota Reached in Two Districts

County chairman Louise G. Tlatth reports that Ashley under Jean Robinson and the Vernal Business district under Mrs. Dick DeJournette and Mrs. Bob Mohr have already reached their cancer drive quotas. Lieutenants in other districts include Mrs. Bob Marimon Whiterocks and several named volunteers. Uintah county's quota is $1 000 and the drive must be completed by May 30.

Junior Stock Show Opens With Array of Exhibits

Vernal Pool Set to Open May 30 for Season

City Manager LeRoy Taylor announced the Vernal Swimming Pool will open Memorial Day May 30 with Glen Oward as manager. The pool will operate daily starting 1 PM with free swim from 1 to 2 PM and a later family hour in the evening from 6 to 8. Access is limited by season permits and hours.

Bloodmobile to Be Here June 4

Bloodmobile will be at the Stake Center June 4 from 10 am to 2 pm to collect blood for Red Cross needs. Ray Nash chairs the county Red Cross drive with cooperation from the Stake Bellet Society Uintah County Registered Nurses Association and Uintah County Medical Association. The goal is 200 pints with 250 to 310 donors expected as volunteers may be rejected for health reasons. Ninety percent of collected blood will aid wounded soldiers and military hospitals. the vehicle will stay ten days for local use then ship out.
