September Ram Sale Aims to Boost Uintah Basin Industry
Vernal plans a September ram sale on September 15 to spur a lasting sheep industry in Uintah Basin. Organizers led by Vernal’s Vernal’s Vernal Chamber of Commerce expect 400 consignments with 60 already committed. Duchesne Grazing District No. 8 adds 187 000 sheep plus 13 000 from farms to support the growth. Williams Mansfield Siddoway and others coordinate committees for catalog entries grounds and publicity.

An urgent Red Cross appeal drew 131 donors to the Vernal center on Wednesday. Most RH negative and O type blood went to Salt Lake and then San Francisco for Korea relief. Of 246 pledges, medical charts and typing limited donations. 39 were rejected. Remaining blood laid up as plasma. The Vernal chapter aims to reopen the unit in two months.

Funeral services for Richard J. Slaugh 64 pioneer sawmill operator and freighter will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Vernal First Ward chapel. Speakers Archie Johnson and Warren Richardson will officiate per Ernest M. Caldwell. Slaugh began freight work at age 12 between Vernal and Price, later entering the sawmill business in 1915.

Late Season Sheep Losses In Uintah Basin Normal
Despite a severe winter and late spring in the Uintah Basin, sheep losses have remained normal this spring says B H Stringham of the national advisory grazing council. Several hundred newborn lambs died from late winter storms and cold spells. The flock winters on public domain bad lands and faced lambing delays on Diamond Mountain due to heavy snow. Lambing is over and docking remains before summer grazing. Shearing was light due to poor sheep condition and snow kept wool clean but light.

Opening fish season promises better angling for all
Local fish and game officials and the Chamber of Commerce expect strong opening activities for the fish season.
