Uintah Junior Livestock Show and Sale Set for May

Preparations underway for the annual Uintah Junior Livestock Show and Sale to be held May 27 and 28 at the fairgrounds. A May 18 cleanup workday at 9:00 am is planned, with entry blanks due May 17 to Mr. Acord. Judging runs May 27 to 28, with prizes including radios for grand champions and pencil sets for reserve champions. a 4-H record book prize and a horse show on May 27. Concessions benefit the Uintah Basin Jr. Livestock Show, operated by the United Chapter of Young Farmers.

Funeral Rites Held for Leonard Atwood in Vernal

Leonard Atwood 72 a retired sheep herder and farmer died of a heart ailment in Vernal. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 30 p m in the Vernal First Ward chapel with Glen Walker officiating. Speakers H Walter Woolley and Van Massey, music by a ladies double trio and readers plus other local participants. Survived by widow four sons two daughters a step daughter and 17 grandchildren. Interment at Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery under Vernal Mortuary direction.

Uintah families lead Utah in home food production

Nine farm ownership families in Uintah County led the state in home food production under the Farmers Home Administration program. In 1952 the 259 Utah families in the project produced a total food value of 312 dollars per family, including meat milk eggs and garden produce, while spending more cash versus the national average.

Uintah High principal accepts University of Utah fellowship

A Rigby Uintah High School principal accepted a University of Utah Research Fellowship in educational administration. The school board approved the move Tuesday. Rigby has led Uintah Wah School for four years and previously directed student personnel and adult education in the Uintah School District. He will study at Utah for at least one year or until the research project ends.

FHA Banquet Held at UHS Saturday by Lloy Bennett

Forty FHA members and their mothers attended the Uintah Homemakers of America banquet on May 10 in the home economics department. Lu Fee Collett presided as mistress of ceremonies, with Mrs Harmon Sawards guest of honor who spoke on the importance of home making. Mr and Mrs Rigby attended as honored guests. Program numbers included aPlano solo by Arlene Sullivans and a Plano duet by Frenna Anderson.

Scout Training Course Postponed

Basic training for scout leaders moved one week to begin May 22 and run for five Thursdays through June 19. Two departments will run for scout leaders and explorer leaders, with meetings at 8 pm in the Stake House.

Last Rites for Orion R. Jones Conducted Tites

Funeral rites were held in a ward chapel building Jones had supervised as bishop. Bishop C. Laurence Fox presided and Counselor Woodrow White conducted. Jones died Saturday morning in a Salt Lake hospital from a heart ailment. Frayer at the home was offered by Richard Jensen. At the chapel an opening song by a ladies trio, and several speakers recalled the deceased’s life. Interment was in Vernal City Memorial Park under the direction of the Vernal Restuary.

Dale Ross Named Uintah High Student Body President

After a week of campaigning following recent primary elections Uintah High School elected Dale Ross a standout dramatic student and band president as student body president for next year. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Harold Ross and has served this year in a student body office and as vice president of the Girly League.

Utah Girls Staters Announced for Sixth Annual State

The Utah Auxiliary of the American Legion announces the sixth annual Utah Girls State to be held at Utah State Agricultural College campus June 8 to 15. About 150 girls from across Utah will be enrolled as citizens with Vernal delegates Mary Ann King Loreen Johnson and Eloise Caldwell among them. Delegates are sponsored by local groups including Kiwanians Lions and BPW with Be A State activities to educate girls in civic rights duties and leadership.

Tributes Paid Life Of Lola Caldwell In Vernal

Relatives and friends gathered at the Third Ward chapel for services honoring Lola Hal Caldwell 70 who died at Uintah County Hospital Tuesday. Bishop C Laurence Fox directed the funeral with songs by a quartet and tributes from Alice Caldwell Fox and others. Interment followed at Dry Fork Cemetery under Vernal Mortuary.

Uintah High School will hold graduation exercises Friday May 23 at 8 p m Eyiteloat Averd Rigby announces all students will take part in a mass participation program 78 graduates are expected to receive diplomas during the ceremony at the high school building.

State Demos Choose New Head at Convention

Presidential candidate Estell Kefauver was keynote speaker at the Democratic convention held Saturday in Salt Lake City. Milton Be Wellenmann, Salt Lake County chairman, won the state chair position. Mrs. George Balilf of Provo was unchallenged and remained vice chair. Eight Uintah delegates attended, led by Howard B. Calder and Leland Sowards, with multiple other locals listed. Weisenmann and Mrs Balilf planned to attend a Patriotic Rally in Vernal on June 4.

U of U President to Speak at UHS Baccalaureate

Baccalaureate exercises for the graduating class of 1952 at Uli tah high school will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Guest speaker will be President A Ray Digin of the University of Utah. The program will include a processional, scripture reading, invocation, choir numbers, and benediction with a faculty committee and student participants named.
