Death of William T Red Wash Jones near Uintah line

William T Red Wash Jones a noted Ashley cattleman died of a heart collapse near the Colorado Utah line Tuesday. His death follows a heated discussion at a ranch, with Dr G H Christ confirming the cause and no violence involved. He was 75, born in Texas, linked to Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill Hickok, and survived by two sisters and a daughter. Burial to be simple on the hill above his Ashley home with Ralph Reeve in charge.

Marble Tournament Leaders Attend Uintah Stake Tryouts

The Uintah stake marble tournament opens Monday May 26 with allotted times for local wards and districts. Referees and stake representatives will oversee preliminaries at Courthouse grounds with district winners to be announced next week in the Express.

Petrified forest found on Yellowstone project site

A petrified forest covering several acres was found by a road-building crew on the lower Yellowstone rehabilitation project. The trees are up to 6 feet in diameter and exceed 100 feet in length, dating back millions of years.

Magnet Picks Up Nuts From Utah Highways

About 300 pounds of unassorted junk metal including railroad spikes and bolts were collected by the state magnetic road sweeper on its first test near Soldier Summit. Assistant engineer E C Knowlton said as much as seventeen pounds were gathered in a quarter mile of highway. The machine covered nine miles Tuesday and will continue through Spanish Fork canyon Eureka Lynndyl road and districts 2 1 and 5 to sweep the state.

Calder and Davis to Receive Degrees at VU Commencement

Logan Utah seniors David H. Calder and Carl Davis of Vernal will graduate from Utah State Agricultural College with Bachelor of Science degrees at the May 31 commencement. Calder will earn a business administration degree. Davis a degree in agronomy. Both are members of campus fraternities and honor or social groups.

Turkey Growers of Utah Plan Big Meet on June 20

Utah turkey growers form an organizing committee at the Nexhouse Hotel Salt Lake City under the Utah Poultry Producers Cooperative Association. New Company Drilling in Rangely Field

Brigman Petroleum plans seven new wells in the Rangely field 53 miles east of Vernal to develop a gas supply. Two wells have been drilled at 611 and 652 feet. Production will be sold to a major oil distributor after field facilities are built.

Scout Executive A A Anderson of Timpanogas Council Provo conducted a Sunday training in Vernal with a morning Scoutmasters course at 10 o clock at the Seminary building and an afternoon session at 2 for rotation of troop committees. An evening court of honor at 7:30 in the Vernal First Ward chapel awarded honors to scouts while Anderson urged parent and community responsibility for youth guidance.

Sister of Mrs Wallis Dies Suddenly in Ogden

Mrs Martha Todd Read sister to Mrs James H Wallis died at age 68 at her Ogden home from a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services were held with Bishop Edward T Saunders in charge and speakers including Bishop Jarms Elijah Larkins and Mary Farley. She was born in London and emigrated to Utah in 1882 and survived by her husband, daughter Velma, eight relatives, and siblings.

Hiker Robs Man After Ride From Idaho to Texas

A hitch hiker boarded a car in Hancroft Idaho with T H Foster. Foster drove toward Stratford Texas and rented a Verdun room. The stranger obtained a $3 loan before leaving while Foster slept. Tuesday morning Foster found the room in disorder and the man missing.

Uintah Gas erects modern regulation station in Vernal

Uintah Gas Co completes a new regulation station four blocks south of the Monument on Fourth South and Vernal Avenue. The fence of woven wire on welded pipe framing is noted as unique. Regulators reduce gas pressure from 223 psi to 60 psi, then to 5 psi at Vernal. The system now spans ten miles of pipe. the natural gas is undiated and odorized to detect leaks.

Hiker thefts and arrests shake local patrols

Police tracked a described hiker after reports of pocket knife thefts and 360 rings being disapproved along a hitch hike. They later detained 17 year old Robert Groll with a sting gun and related items, amid other burglaries and prowling at Regent Street locations.
