Drowning Tragedy in Vernal Naples Leaves Infant Lost
A 16 month old girl, Clyda Chivers, drowned in a large irrigating ditch near Naples Vernal on Tuesday afternoon. Neighbors Mary Merrill and Lynn Richens aided in the search but the child could not be revived. Funeral services were held in the Naples ward chapel with Bishop Byron G Goodrich officiating and a large crowd in attendance.

Calder Creamery has completed major upgrades over two months including a cement floor white enamel interior skylight new cheese equipment and overhaul of all plant gear. The plant now produces Dairy Maid cheese and ships about 6500 pounds of butter monthly to Los Angeles with annual output around 9,145,000 pounds. Local dairy farmers received about 160,000 for butter fat this year, with over one million dollars paid in the last decade.

Impressive Funeral Rites Held for Iris Miller Friday
The Vernal Second Ward chapel hosted funeral services for Iris Miller who died Wednesday night April 30. Bishopric led the service with a floral decorated casket and six young girls as pallbearers. Uintah High School chorus, directed by Lloyd Winn, sang Oh My Father as part of the program.

Two Fires at Rangely Level Oil Distill Plant and Hotel
A week of fires at Rangely Colorado destroyed the Raven Ol aid Refining distill room and a hotel. The first blaze began when a distill burst, oil fed the flames, emergency crews could not contain the inferno, and the plant building burned completely. A second fire earlier in January had already consumed another facility.

A fire at the Rangely Hotel Tuesday night burned the entire building to the ground with no items saved. Owners Mr and Mrs James Coltharp were away at a coal mine and did not return until investigators began. Fire crews arrayed with cistern water could not halt the blaze and repairs to the distillery house were planned for imminent operation in a few days.

Uintah Wins 1 Mile at Price Track Meet Amid Wide Scoring
Uintah placed second to Carbon in the split region meet at Price with a strong mile win by Uintah's runner in four minutes fifty seconds. Forest land added to Ashley National Forest
A presidential proclamation adds about 9600 acres of public land and 4000 acres of private timber land to Ashley National Forest in Uintah and Daggett counties. The move, aimed at unified fire protection, transfers lands from Interior to Agriculture and follows petitions from local groups.
