Uintah high school seniors Robert E. Lee and Dale Open shaw are named as scholarship recipients for the 1949-50 year at the University of Utah. An assembly Thursday will present the awards. Additional winners include a $25 BYU scholarship among Lois Veile Melvin Weeks Nola Batty Wayne Lundell and Gayla Hacking. Two of Wayne Batty Mark Allen Myles McCoy and Nyle Merkley will receive $30 scholarships to Utah State Agricultural College.

A fire at the Second LDS ward scout house Wednesday night around 7 30 caused damage to one room and flooring. Paint under a stairway near the entrance ignited and the first floor landing ceiling and joists in the small room beneath were burned as investigators probe the blaze.

Noah Ells Caldwell Sr. 80 of Dry Fork died Tuesday after an extended illness. Born February 19 1889 in Chicken Creek Juab County he was a farmer and sheep man and elder in the LDS Church. Survivors include his widow several children and brothers. Funeral services set for Friday at 1 p.m. in MaeSer ward chapel with burial in Dry Fork cemetery.

First Ward Reaches Bond Quota in Opportunity Drive

David Carruth 74 Roosevelt pioneer died last Saturday at his daughter’s home in Vernal after a brief illness. Born May 12, 1875, at Cedar Creek he lived near Roosevelt before moving to Vernal in 1939. Survived by six children including Leona Detter Portland Leroy Carruth Olympia Dean Welch Carnell Vernal Mrs. Stanley and Mrs. Owen Bodily funeral held Tuesday in Roosevelt with burial at Roosevelt Cemetery.
