Innocent Boy Shot at on Whiterocks Road by Unknown Indians

Fourteen year old Burnett Blackburn delivering a letter on the Whiterocks trail was shot at by an Indian while ponies were spooked. The bullet pierced his vest and coat and the sealed letter was damaged. Sheriff McNeill and Indian Agent Hall coordinated a search, with no certainty on identifying the assailants.

Death of E A Meredith the Moffat road locating engineer

E A Meredith a prominent Routt County locating engineer for the Moffat road died after a pneumonia relapse following a fall into a swift Gore canyon river. He was found unconscious and died days later at his camp. He had been with the road since its inception and recently planned to sever ties.

Mischievous Fire Alarm at Vernal Central School

Three boys at Vernal Central School attempted a prank by starting smoke in the basement of the school. Smoke appeared from basement windows during noon hour triggering playyard alarms before firefighters arrived. Authorities traced the incident to the students, who confessed after questioning led by Prof. Sewards and Marshal Richardson.
