State v J H Arnold Fund Fraud Hearing Before Judge Brigham Christensen

A preliminary hearing May 7 before Judge Christensen bound J H Arnold over for district court on June 6 1907 on charges of fraudulently disposing of cattle and taking them out of state. Evidence showed Arnold paid a bank note with funds diverted to pay unsecured accounts while under a cross state mortgage, with witness Pardons Dodds Jr and Sheriff McNeil testifying for the state and Arnold's counsel Chas DeMoisy presenting the defense.

Flesh Grafting Surgery For Young Hugh Colton

Master Hugh Colton six year old son of D. Colton and Mrs Nancy Colton underwent a long flesh grafting operation on Tuesday May 7 to correct contractures in his right hand. Doctors Garrett O Donnel and Christy performed extensive skin removal and grafting from the leg to the fingers, with four hours and forty minutes on the table and seven hours under anesthesia. The success hinges on grafts uniting with finger skin as the boy recovers and his condition remains trusting and hopeful through visitors and family support.

Death of Mrs. Mitchell After Prolonged Illness

Mrs. Mitchell, stricken with spinal meningitis at White Rocka for seven weeks, died Tuesday. Her mother Mrs L W McKenny and sister Mrs L W Curry stayed by her side. The 12 year old son and a younger brother and sister survive along with three other children. A 10 year old son Harrold died two days after her illness began. An Indian girl at the nearby school is also gravely ill with the same disease. Six Indians have died in the area, including two adults and four babies. Burial plans place her beside her son on Dr Lloyd's farm southwest of the Agency.

Denver area visitors report Brown's Park and Routt County sights

Eugene A Daniels and Ben Damela toured Brown's Park and Routt County returning to Maybell after 16 days. They described Diamond Mountain Hoy Canyon and Green River ferry, John Jarvie and flood damage on April 20, Craig near Bear River, and Cary Ranch near Craig with vast facilities, windmills, and prize horses and cattle. They plan cattle sales and discuss social and industrial progress.

Mrs. Nancy Colton suffered a painful accident as a concealed needle broke in her hand during laundry. the fragment remains in place after medical probing failed to locate it. Prof. Wm. J. Snow spoke on Duty to Society to a conjoint session Sunday night, promising a warm welcome on future Maeser visits.

Independence and vicinity saw a heavy shower Saturday night and Sunday morning. S. B. Kush planted seven acres of potatoes. J N Peacher and father visited Vernal for health consult with Dr. Brownfield. Local prices: butter five cents a pound, eggs twenty cents a dozen. Farmers began first irrigation of the season and new farmers adjust to the task.

Postmaster Chatwin Proclaimed Poisoned by Tick Bite

Doctor O Donnell visits Postmaster Chatwin and three children, diagnosing poisoning from a woodtick bite. Chatwin’s illness followed a bite, with swelling on the spot. a boy’s match near a stackyard is blamed for a near fire. The report notes additional tick related illnesses in the area.
