The Allis-Chalmers Company through agent Frank Marcy contracts with Uintah Railway for machinery to the mill and power plant. About 85 tons total freight, 25 tons to Ashley Gorge mouth, with poles and power-line work planned to Vernal.

Mrs Maggie Lurbyfill received a April 27 letter from Dr J A Coppeage of Alaureet Texas reporting her husband died April 25 at 1250 pm from wounds after being shot near Rock Ledge switch station on a Rock Island branch. The assailant Solon Owens Jr a boy about 18 fired two revolver shots and two rifle shots. Turbyfill fired back and died after suffering a painful death as Owens pursued him for two miles. The community offers sympathy to Mrs Turbyfill and children during this bitter trial.

Crossed the Divide: Ephram Perks Passes After Long Illness
Ephram Perks died Monday evening April 29 1807 after an 81x month illness plagued by pneumonia heart trouble and dropsy. Born October 28 1802 in England he was 54 and moved to the valley in 1879 joining the hard winter era. He leaves wife and eight children with Nettie Hyde and Isriel Perks in Magrath Canada among survivors. Funeral services were held Wednesday forenoon at the Vernal Ward house with burial in Vernal cemetery.
