UHS Musicians Win Honors at Price Contests

UHS band members led by Prof Lloyd Winn earned ratings from highly superior to excellent at the Intermountain band contest in Price last weekend. Trombone soloist Lloyd Calder and trombone player Darrell Bastian received top and high ratings, a clarinet solo by Norman Johnson rated excellent, and the brass quartet of Lewis Hall Calder Massey earned excellent. The seven youths will receive certificates from the National High School Band Association.

Funeral Rites Held for Mrs Geo B Miller

Funeral services for Mrs George B Miller were held May 2 at Bluffdale ward chapel after her death April 30. Speakers recalled her pioneer life in Ashley Valley. Eight of eleven children survive with spouses and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Stake MIA Honor Night in Vernal Fist ward chapel featured Mrs Harold Davis presiding. Faust ward presented the one act drama Andante directed by Alta Fox with J Lowell Fox Gwen Roberts Donna Calder Earl Freeman and Irving Ray Stringham in the cast. Naples ward performed a musical skit The Beauty Shop directed by Geth Ashworth with Elaine Goodrich Mabel Gardiner Louise Lybbert Bernice Lybbert in the cast and Mrs J Wallace Johnson on piano. Salt Lake Police Visit Jensen Junior High in Outing

Salt Lake City motor officers L R Terry and J W Pierce visited Jensen with 18 pupils and teacher Mrs Mytrie Peterson for a four day sight seeing trip. Sheriff Emery Johnson escorted part of the caravan to Green River Gorge and Dinosaur National Monument. Events included a reception, a comedy drama, a fish dinner, and home-hosted suppers before the return to Salt Lake City.

Vast Uintah county asphalt plant payroll in Vernal

Over one hundred men are employed in two five hour shifts at the Vernal asphalt plant seven miles west of town. Thirty plus tons of treated material are produced daily as work expands. 116 workers earn about 1500 dollars weekly under Superintendent D P Maher with crews in both the treating plant and quarry.

The Vernal First Ward chapel hosted the LDS Seminary declamation contest and graduation services. Bernice Lybbert won first place with Jacob's Ladder while Mabel Gardiner placed second with What I Owe My Fellowmen. Gold and Green Carnival Draws Large Lapoint Crowd

County Clerk F J L Noel reports Uintah County total outstanding indebtedness at about 77000. General fund deficit 70005, bonds 847000, plus accrued interest and warrants bring total to roughly 77000. Funds on hand about 890209 leaving roughly 7519869 debt noted. first accurate monthly balance since oath of office.
