Uintah County Honours John W Weaver and backs charity drive
Uintah County commissioners paid tribute to late board member John W Weaver and filled his vacancy with Stephen Petry chosen by the Uintah County Democratic Central Committee. The board approved a condolence resolution and expressed sympathy to Weaver’s family. They also allotted 50 dollars to support the Utah Colorado River Conservancy action and planned to attend a May 20 public land meeting in Hollywood with county officials.

Funeral rites held Friday for C S Carter in Vernal
Funeral services for Charles Anth Carter 81 a prominent figure in Vernal business and film life were held Friday at 2 00 p m in the Vernal First Ward chapel under the Vernal Second Ward bishopric with Owen Slaugh presiding. The service filled the chapel as civic and business groups sent flower tributes. Death came from a heart attack suffered at his home early Tuesday morning. Music included a tenor solo by Milton Judd and a soprano solo by Mrs Lucilla Calder with accompanists Mrs Mary Manwaring and others. The invocation was by William H Biddeway and closing remarks by Phil Watkins with bearers led by Mark M Hall. Continued on Page Eight.

The Uintah Basin youth bands delivered a landmark festival performance in Roosevelt drawing praise for concert and marching work. Uintah High School earned top concert and marching ratings while Alterra and Duchema bands also scored well. The event, hosted by Roosevelt, showcased notable musicians from Uintah and nearby schools with planned next year in Vernal.

Vernal Central School stages a 9:39 p.m. parade from Central toward Second West, then to Main Street and courthouse grounds.
