Vernal Committee to Seek Lumber Seasoning Plant
At a city office meeting Friday Rae 4sh ton was chosen to head a committee to study a lumber seasoning plant for the Vernal area. The plant would handle output from Ashley Natl Forest mills, with estimates of 50k to 75k dollars for setup. Earl Sanford said the forest could supply 1.0 million feet annually and urged local seasoning to replace imported lumber, noting 1941 sawmills produced 1.448 million feet and similar imports occurred. The plan faces state resistance and aims to cover at least half the plant cost through APC town support. (Continued on Page Four)
