Thelma Kay of Naples Ward Dies After Illness

The Naples community mourns Thelma Kay daughter of Mr and Mrs John T Kay who died April 24 1924 from pleurisy and pneumonia after a month of illness Her birth date July 13 1908 in Mona Utah and her activities including sewing art and girls club are noted Funeral services were held April 27 at the Naples ward house with music from classmates and a mixed quartet and remarks by George L Goodrich Stella Richards and James M Shaffer. She leaves brothers Jaka Kay Roy Kay and siblings Alta York Alice Mille and Alvin.

Arizona Fumigates All Passengers From Calif

Phoenix April 28 Arizona today began disinfection of every railroad passenger from California and every California destination in the state. Fumigation stations operated in six towns and trains from the state discharged travelers who were disinfected in a long cleaning trough before resuming their journeys. Baggage was also fumigated.

Martha Lamoreaux Wins O'Donnell Medal in Oratory

Martha Lamoreaux, a sophomore, won the T. W. O'Donnell medal in Oratory for a Uintah Basin themed speech. Finalists included Earl Marshall and Vidella Behrmann. judges were Wallace Calder E Peterson and A M Goodrich. The interschool winner will deliver an ovation at the U B I C in Fort Duchesne in July. The roving cup requires three consecutive wins to claim the prize.

Portland Ore April 28 More than 200 men are out of work as a fire early today swept the St Johns Lumber company causing damage estimated at 400000 dollars Fire officials said the blaze began in the mill area and quickly spread destroying several sheds and lumber stacks.

Fourteen Bodies Found After Benwood Mine Explosion

Wheeling West Virginia April 28 Fourteen bodies recovered from the Benwood mine of Wheeling Steel. One hundred miners remained unaccounted for as rescue teams labored beside airshafts and main passages seeking survivors after a devastating explosion. Officials reported no gas evidence two months prior and described a frantic, ongoing search with hopes fading for those trapped.

Four Dinosaurs Added to Museum at University

Salt Lake City April 29 A Utah University geology head says the University of Utah will house four newly dug skeletons from Jensen Utah in its museum making its collection unrivaled among colleges. Dr Earl Douglass of the Carnegie Institute oversees operations at the quarry where three skeletons are packed ready for shipment. The bron tasaurus one of the largest reptiles ever lived is still being excavated. The remains are explained by Dr Park as the result of a sand bar crossing a river trapping carcasses and embedding them in sand.

A. G. Goed ich, clerk of Uintah school district, said Pope and Burton of East Lake City informed plans for the new senior high school, costing about 86,000 dollars, will be ready soon. Bids will be invited from local and outside contractors, with several likely to submit.

Claims to Hold Sun's Heat Using Mirror Bowl

San Francisco dated April 22. Marcel Moreau announced a method to harness the sun's heat. He cites Archimedes and Buffon, describing a bowl four feet wide with small mirrors and lenses to concentrate heat. He claims to regulate heat to the desired degree and says his device could melt a diamond and remove a gas.

Lorna Dow Catches Wee Air in Wringer

Miss Lorna Dow, worker for Mr and Mrs Otis Weeks, trapped hair in a wringer while washing. She held the wheel to free herself as Mrs Weeks was outside. The tangle required cutting hair from the scalp and left bruising with two deep creases on the forehead.

Effort to Regulate Gasoline Prices by Federal Action

Governor Maboy and Utah Attorney General Harvey H. Cintf urged the Federal Trade Commission to investigate gasoline pricing disparities in Utah.
