Nelson Merkley, longtime Utah pioneer, dies of pneumonia at home in Vernal. He arrived with a 1879 Ashley valley settlement party, married Kelurah Peterson in 1884, and left a 40 acre family homestead plus a 120 acre farm. Survived by multiple children and his mother. funeral plans noted.

Fire at Altonah Destroys Millard Building in High Wind
A Tuesday blaze in Altonah destroyed the Millard building housing Rafe Petty. Only household goods on the lower floor survived as shingles blew a half mile and ignited several corrals. Miller lost five calves and a hay wagon amid spreading flames threatening nearby homes.

Evelyn Billings Dies After Suffering From Burn Injuries
Miss Evelyn D Billings daughter of W F Billings of Jensen died Friday after days of severe burns suffered while separating milk on April 6. She was taken to the local hospital and endured great pain but remained cheerful. Funeral services were held in Jensen with Bishop Thos J Caldwell presiding and interment in Jensen Cemetery.
