Willim H Burton and Caro line A Burton, Uintah Basin pioneers, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary February 25 in Meyersville Oregon. Longtime residents since leaving Vernal 24 years ago, the Burtons started in Ashley before moving to Gres River and later to a merchantile business. They are the parents of five, including Florence Christy of Ninville and John Boyer of Seattle, with roots tracing to Isaac and Clara Burton and Joseph and Elizabeth Arnold.

Planning Board To Prepare Zoning Map of Vernal

The Vernal Planning committee led by J C Anderson of Uuh Power and Light works on Vernal zoning and a zone map to guide future building. A land use survey under way will inform the map, addressing cluttered driveways and alleys, and new subdivision blocks will reduce waste land. The city will be divided into districts with building types and warehouse locations regulated. no new structures without planning board permission. 735 Mile Oil Line Planned At 10 Million Cost

Plans form to build a 735 mile crude oil pipeline from Rangeled to refineries at Benelypela, costing about ten million dollars. California Company officials say expansion would increase daily output from 15,000 to around 30,000 barrels, with multiple companies exploring connections and a target to allow more supply from existing wells. Power Company to Increase Plant Capacity to 955 kw

Speaker to Tell Of Growing Tourist Industry in Vernal

William C Winder, a Utah tourism leader, will discuss the growing tourist industry and its impact on Vernal and the state. The talk at Vernal Central School, Wednesday at 8 pm, invites workers in service stations hotels restaurants and others involved with tourism. Winder, whose lectures span Utah, is with the Publicity and Industrial Development Commission and the State Board of Education. He will be a guest of the Vernal Lions Club. W H Oaks Dies After Lingering Illness in Maeser

W H Oaks, longtime Ashley Valley resident, died Monday morning at his Maeser home after a yearlong illness. Born July 24, 1872, in Daniels Creek Wasatch County, he moved to Ashley Valley in 1879 by ox team. He helped build early schools, served on the Maeser school board, directed the Ashley Upper Canal, and promoted the Oak Reservoir project. He held roles with Uintah National Farm Loan Association and the Uintah County Farm Bureau, and helped organize the Maeser water system. Continued on page five.

Gun Club to Hold Barn Dance at Imperial Hall

The Vernal Rod and Gun club will stage its annual Baranee or Spring Frolic Friday evening at Imperial Hall. Jensen Cattleman Receives Reward for Arrest

Jensen Cattleman received a reward of £4 for aiding in the arrest and conviction of a night raider in Rio Blanco county. The thief, Sechorn, was convicted and sent to McNeil Island for one year and one day after allegedly stealing and slaughtering a steer on the Ugias Creek range last October.

Work Starts On New Vernal Hotel

Excavation on the East Main site for the New Vernal Hotel began this week as the foundation work moved forward. Ashton and Evans of Salt Lake are the architects with Fores of Murray as contractors, and the building is expected to be completed by November with most materials on hand.

New Theatre Opens March 29 in Vernal on Main Street

The new Vernal Theater on East Main Street will open Friday March 28 following construction by Shiner Brothers begun last fall. A fashion preview sponsored by Roberts style shop will precede the opening night. The building houses Barkers Jewelry and Roberts and is described as one of Main Street’s most attractive structures.

Vernal Rodeo Set For Aug 1 2 3 In Utah

Vernal Rodeo Association president Hugh W Calton announced the annual event will run August 1 2 3 with the Western Rodeo Company of Wellsville Utah chosen as contractor. The board approved the staging and officers promise this year’s show will be the best ever in eastern Utah.
