Poison Oats Purchased For Prairie Dog Control

Uintah county commissioners ordered 2000 pounds of special prepared poison oats from R Gott Zims Merman of U and Biological Survey for distribution to farmers at no charge to combat prairie dogs. Zimmerman and County Agent St R Keetch drafted a tentative distribution plan for cooperators in several communities later in the season under supervision of county men. A small sample of treated oats is available at county cost, but a test showed minimal consumption by dogs, so farmers are advised to wait until later in the season before deploying bait.
