Uintah earned a berth in the state high school basketball tournament as Region Five ended at Huntington. Uintah led North Emery 8-1 and stretched its advantage to 32-9 by the third quarter, finishing 48-18. Alexander led with nine Meld goals, Anderson scored 10, and Olsen eight.

Mrs Glenn Reed Rites Fill Lapoint Chapel

Funeral services for Mrs Jane Reed Reed wife of Glenn Reed were held at Lapoint Chapel with Bishop Jerry Harrison presiding. The crowd overflowed the chapel and many stood outside due to space limits. Interment followed at Roosevelt cemetery amid floral tributes and mixed vocal performances. Mrs Reed, born January 22 1907 in Vernal, is survived by her husband, eight daughters, and several siblings.

Funeral Services For C E Curtis Lapoint Pioneer

Charles Edward Curtis a Lapoint pioneer and LDS church member died Friday afternoon March 6 at his son’s home. A longtime resident of the reservation he came to Lapoint at its opening and farmed, raising produce and livestock. He is survived by son Arthur and Charles Edward, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. his wife Bertha L Jolly died in 1926. Funeral services conducted by ward officials featured a choral quartet and remarks on his faithful life. The burial at Lapoint cemetery was conducted by D A Lamoreaux.

An Old Spanish Custom at Uintah High Soon

Uintah High School music department presents An Old Spanish Custom this Friday and Saturday. The two act play features over 200 in the cast chorus and dances. Directed by Lloyd Winn with drama coach Myss E Judd and costumes by Ethelynn Largon. The production includes twenty numbers of songs choruses instrumental pieces and dances.

Mail Truck at Jensen 13 saved From Fire by Quick Work of Driver

Albert Slaugh, a Verner-Craig mail stage driver for Comet Motor Express, reached Jensen postoffice and found his mail truck on fire. He unloaded the mail with Postmaster J Chatwin’s help, damaged a sack of parcels post, bread scorched, and concluded the fire began from exhaust pipe contact with the truck floor. The mail and registered pouches were uninsured. long-run delay could have worsened losses.

Sanitary Project Advances in Uintah County

The Utah Board of Health and WPA, sponsored by Vernal City and Uintah County, push a sanitary project led by Clyde Thompson. About 475 privies were built in Duchesne County and more are planned in Uintah communities as WPA crews construct units and transport them to sites. Total Uintah County funding reaches 5000 dollars for WPA labor. material costs of 23 dollars borne by sponsors.

Mrs William Zowe of Myton 58 died Tuesday morning after a stroke the day before Funeral services were held last Thursday at the Presbyterian church in Myton with Willard G Spencer of Vernal directing Interment followed in Myton cemetery She was born in Creston Town March 14 1877 and came to Utah in 1908 settling in Myton She married William Zowe on October 28 1908 who survives her

Stan L Robbins a foreman at the asphalt plant attended the Springville funeral of James W Whiting with his wife and daughter Marilyn. Whiting, long known as the contractor building the road east of Ashley Creek bridge on US 40 between Vernal and Jensen, was widely remembered in Vernal.

Funeral services for Mrs Manny Odekirk, 82, will be held Saturday at I oclock in the Vernal Second Ward chapel. She died Thursday morning at a hospital in East Lake City after age related ailments. Odekirk was a pioneer of Ashley Valley and served as Relief Society president in Vernal’s First and Second wards. Bishop John Helr of Vernal Second Ward will preside.

Hatchery at Whiterocks Doubles Fish Stock in Expansion

EnlargedWhiterocks fish hatchery now holds over 900000 fish in various sizes with more than 250000 ready for planting. New ponds and twenty six hatching troughs were built last winter, bringing total rearing ponds to thirteen with plans for two more this spring. Roosevelt FFA Instructor Set for Nation-wide Ag Tour

Walker E Atwood, Smith-Hughes instructor at Roosevelt High, selected to represent Utah on a national FFA agriculture tour. Bennett Founder Dies Saturday OF Pneumonia

John B Bennett of Dennett dies on March 7 at age 63 after a period of illness. Founder of Dennett, he settled there in 1905 after taking an Indian allotment and served as an LDS ward counselor and active church member. Survived by his widow and many children, the family note a life of service and ties to Utah and Arizona communities. Stewart Lakes Flood Control Work Nears Finish

A large dike system to hold flood waters from Green River and Stewart Lakes near completion. A road will connect parts of the project as crews of 22 teams and 15 men gauge flow and lay cement control boxes. The aim is to hold water in the lake for nesting and hunting grounds at the north end, with work ongoing this spring and ideal conditions reported.

Water System Expansion Plans in Vernal and Maeser Push Debate

Vernal City Council discussed a $75,000 water system expansion linking Ashley Canyon to Maeser Olines and Naples, including a line to the Vernal Cemetery. Mrs Alice Moore former Maeser resident dies in Ogden

Mrs Alice Leonia Wilkes Moore of Ogden dies Friday afternoon in an Ogden hospital after a long illness. She was 73, widow of Samuel A Moore, lived formerly in Maeser. Funeral services were held Sunday in Ogden with burial in Provo Cemetery. Her survivors include two daughters Miriam Hyde of Ogden and Lela Wardlaw of Inspiration Arizona, a son Bilas Moore of Spokane, and four brothers and sisters.
