Basin College Bill Passed Without Appropriation Provisions

The Senate approved SB 298 with minimal amendments but the House on Friday amended to include only a small provision. An appropriation of 95 000 for a proposed junior college at Roosevelt was added by Rep. Aaron Larsen Duchesne, but the Senate rejected the amendment. Conference committee appointments were authorized. Bills creating colleges at Roosevelt and Richfield passed both houses but carry no appropriation. Larsen urged funds be provided, arguing Uintah Basin’s needs justify a college. The plan would redirect 35 900 from a governor’s bending program to fund the project, reducing the total from 500 000 to 465 000. Authorization for new junior colleges in Richfield continued.
