First Aid Instruction Given by Officer in Vernal
About one hundred people attended last week’s first aid training at Uintah High School and the Community House led by Officer Thomas W. Dee of the Salt Lake Police Department. The program included 24 hours of intensive training on bandages splints breathing and bleeding control with certificates issued. An examination for Red Cross standard first aid certificates followed the week long course and a new Uintah County First Aid Association was formed with Clark Newell as president and a meeting set for March 16 at the Community House to demonstrate and organize competitions.

Uintah district officials met Monday to review a teacher employment plan, bus routing issues, and a blanket insurance proposal. The board approved sending a band team to Provo for a contest, funded by the high school budget, and endorsed the recent audit. The Uintah Basin club at BYU held a skating party at Park Roche Saturday, with most members present and a fun two hours of skating. Afterward they met in 7th Room D, Educational Building, for doughnuts and elder, with games. Outward Bound delight at United High Auditorium
Enthusiastic crowds praised the United High School presentation of Outward Bound in the auditorium. Maeser resident Georgy J Buck dies by self-inflicted gunshot
Georgy J. Buck, a long time Maeser resident born 1841, shot himself at his home after a two week illness. The 25-20 calibre rifle was kept for hunting and he showed no sign of despondency before the tragedy. Eight children survive from eleven, including daughters Lauretta Glines Alice Pitt Elza Perry and sons Joseph Jed Ben Frank Mc Coy Luck. Funeral services are set for Friday at the Maeser ward chapel with interment in Vernal cemetery.

WILLOW CRETE Special reports a surprise birthday party for Mr. and Mrs. George Thorne at their home on Feb 28. Many relatives and friends attended a program and one act play. A birthday cake was baked by Mrs I A Brown. Mr Thorne is 77 and Mrs Thorne 75. both born in Michigan. The couple, longtime Utah settlers, moved from Nebraska to Ashley Valley in 1881 then to Willow Creek 16 years ago. They have four sons and five grandchildren and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last June.

County Treasurer Praised for High Tax Collection
Clarence Nealen of the state tax commission commends County Treasurer Martin W. Curtis for strong delinquent tax collections. Patriotic exercises at Imperial hall on February 20 featured the two Vernal Daughters of Utah Pioneers camps presenting a Utah state flag to Central School.
