Four Vernal Youths Selected for Officers Training at Fort Belvoir

Four Vernal youths and Uintah High School graduates Sergeants Lynn Pope Kenneth Goodrich Kent Jorgensen and Howard Walker were chosen for officers training and will report to Fort Belvoir this week. They have served in Hawaii since September and studied at USAO and B W U before.

Legion Auxiliary Makes Fine Work Record

Witbeck Post No 11 American Legion Auxiliary reports 632 Uintah County service men addressed and Christmas greetings sent to 475. From December 7 1941 to 1942 they logged 2550 hours knitting cutting sewing 1875 hours for Red Cross. They sold war bonds and stamps at Ashton Bros each Saturday and shipped 1500 phonograph records. The group supported 130 comfort kits and 62 ward equipment items and donated to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis.

Basin Stock Show Planned For May At Uintah Fair Grounds

Uintah Basin Jr Livestock Show officers met to organize a May 18 and 19 event at the Fair Grounds with Lions Club and sponsors. Red Cross Drive Planned to Raise 2400 in Uintah County

Red Cross officials met at Use tah State Bank to outline a March war fund drive aimed at Uintah County’s $2400 quota for the national appeal Mrs Roy Showalter leads the drive with district captains named for Vernal areas including Northwest Northeast Southeast Southwest and West. Services Held at Maeser for Valley Pioneer

Funeral services for John Jacob Slaugh were held at Maeser Chapel under the direction of Verdin R. Johnson. A quartet and soloists performed with remarks from Arch Johnson and Verdin Johnson. Vernal Mayor Proposes Hot Lunch Fund via Liquor Tax

Vernal Mayor BH Stringham introduced a bill to set aside about 2.725 million dollars from Utah’s state liquor fund for school lunches. The bill would add five cents per quart of wine and ten cents per quart of distilled liquor sold through the State Liquor Control Commission, creating The School Lunch Fund under the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Vernal Seminary Declamation Final Presented Sunday

The annual seminary declamation contest will be held Sunday evening at 700 pm in the Ward Chapel.
