Donald D Noel son of County Clerk Noel completed Graton Conn officers training with high honors and ranks as second petty officer in the Coast Guard. Enlisting in 1943, he trained in Washington and received top marks in final tests. He recently finished a two year northeastern mission and wed Elizabeth Walker in Pebranry 142. He will be transferred to Wisconsin for diesel maintenance training.
Secretary Wickard suspended AA A marketing quotas on wheat to secure wartime supplies. The order affects 1942 and 1943 crop quotas with penalties on wheat sold or fed above allotments. Changes in the farm program permit increased plantings of wheat without penalties if AAA goals for war crops are met, making farmers eligible for benefit payments and wheat loans.
February 26 marks the final Ure inspection deadline under the OP A4 program for perore In spection. Inspections are available across ten CPA designated stations to avoid future tire renewal issues.
Impressive funeral services were held for Captain Cloyd Wooley at the Tridell chapel Saturday afternoon under Bishop LeRoy Morrill and Witbeck Post No 1 of the American Legion. Local Legion members formed a guard and escort. a mixed quartet performed, and speakers recalled Wooley’s life, including his education at Uintah High and BYU through night work. A War Department citation honored his actions during the North Carolina storm rescue. The service concluded with a Star Spangled Banner and prayers as part of the tributes.
Mra Fliza V Neal celebrated her 84th birthday on February 17 at her daughter’s home in Maeser. A Towa native who moved from Colorado in 1906 with her husband William Neal, she helped run the Conrad Prenk ranch at Jensen before relocating to California and returning to Uintah. The Neals assisted Professor Nuuglas in his early work near the ranch, where he began discoveries later associated with the Dinosaur National Monument.
Harold B Rowe, director of the food rationing division, advised Senator Wheeler of Montana on adjustments to rationed foods for workers facing hardship. The plan seeks to permit longer supply intervals for those employed far from markets, with a 35 pound annual canned food quota cited by Sheepman Harry A Snyder of Billings. Continued on page five.

Washington announces an official order allowing recapping of tires 750 x 20 and smaller with reclaimed rubber without board permission. Rubber director Wills Mieters says this reduces demand for replacements. recapping uses about half as much reclaimed rubber and fits wartime ration limits. Recapping of large commercial retreads remains governed by rating restrictions and no change is made to rationing of replacement tires.
The annual Woolgrowers convention met amid talks of raising wool and lamb prices. President Clyde discussed WPB and Agriculture Department control over wool production and noted potential labor shortages affecting shearing. Transport delays from distant sections and cooperation with selective service were also noted. Elmer Lind led Ashley Woolgrowers in outlining association improvements.
The Vernal Lions Club held a Wednesday luncheon with Sperginor Esrle Sanford presenting a water conservation report and Princets HMM Zaindell speaking on customer courtesy. Mr Lundell warned of a drifting “dont care” attitude and urged courteous habits as essential. Ray Stringham and his Buckaroos entertained with Red River Valley Moonlight and other tunes in a five piece show.
The Uintah High School band presented a full uniform concert in the school auditorium under Mr Omanson. The band performed patriotic and traditional pieces to appreciative applause, with standout performances by Lew Cheney and others.
Anton Refel caretaker at Dino saur National Monument near Jenson crafts knives for soldiers. The first batch uses only saw blades and was sent to the Save a Life With A Knife committee in San Francisco last week. Refel, a blacksmith, sells more knives locally and plans more for contingencies against the Japs in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
Uintah defeated Tabiona 42 to 24 at Tabloos Friday night. Coach LeGrande Tea notes a strong Utes performance while Tabiona struggles to finish drives. Uintah improves record and hosts Altamont next Friday as prep scores roll in.
