Missionaries from Vernal prepare for LDS missions
Six Vernal area missionaries depart for church assignments in Salt Lake City after a June 2 farewell at Naples ward. Irvin Haws Shirley Rodeback DeMar Duvall LaVoir Duvall Enid Caldwell and Ernest Weeks will serve in the Norther states North Central States missions with Haws slated for the Norther states mission and the Duvall brothers for the North Central States mission.

Fire Fighters Attend Training Class
The annual forest fire control training school of the Ashley National Forest was held in Verynal on June 8 under Ranger Glen A. Lamert. Ashley fire protection force members attended alongside US Park Service and Utah officials. The program covered weather relations to fire control, radio use, and forestry safety to improve protection of timbers and watersheds.

Kaiser Finds 30 Million Tons of Utah Coking Coal
Kaiser Company reports a new Utah coal deposit of about 30,000,000 tons in central Utah, 24 miles east of Price, on 2560 acres leased from the Interior Department. The seam thickness 11 to 14 feet promises low mining costs and will support Fontana California steel plant expansion. Additional Utah leases bring total to 3040 acres.
