Vernal First 12 Inch Cast Iron Pipe In World

Walter Adams of Provo and C W Simpson of Salt Lake City visited Vernal to review the newly installed cast iron pipe for the waterworks system. Adams said Vernal set a world first by installing the 12 inch pipe using the standard green sand casting method, with fourteen carloads already used in replacements. St George previously received Pacific Cast Iron Pipe and plans to convert fully to cast iron in about three years.

Naples resident Merrill Goodrich wins a $25 prize in the Lewis Motor naming contest for the new hotel service station midway between Vernal’s Commercial and Gibson hotels. H J McKean Inc secures the contract to rebuild the Vernal 1st Ward chapel after a fire. Architects Anderson and Young of Salt Lake City prepared plans for two large additions, with a total reconstruction cost around 28000 dollars. Early Morning Fire Destroys Shelton Home Outside Vernal

A Saturday dawn fire completely destroys the Shelton home near Vernal on the Lapoint Vernal road. Mrs Bus Hatch and companions noticed the blaze as Myr Sehilton and family slept in tents nearby. Firefighters from Vernal could not reach the scene in time, and efforts to save the structure failed. Personal effects from the Sheltons and Dr Nelson family were saved, with partial insurance reported.

Vernal delegation meets governor on Utah public works plan

A fifteen member Uintah county delegation led by commissioners and officials met Governor Henry Blood and the state road commission in Salt Lake City to push a $4 194 708 public works grant. Steel Worker Falls Into Green River After Wrench Slip

Dave Pike a steel worker on the bridge across Green River plunged into the water when a wrench slipped from a bolt he was tightening on a lower girder. He escaped by grabbing a guy rope and climbing to safety. The next day Bess Miner, 12, nearly drowned while wading near the east shore but was rescued from under Squaw bushes with only fright and strangulation.

Mountain States Telephone plans Vernal exchange upgrade

Manager Paul L. Cowan confirms Mountain States Telephone will begin building near the United Bank on Vernal Avenue to convert Vernal exchange to air electric at about 16000. The project includes 375 phones and a new one story brick stucco building with a warehouse and a central energy type system. Completion expected by November. Roosevelt exchange recently completed with new offices and outside plant.

Weevil Damage Forecast From Fall Counts in Alfalfa Fields

Government entomologists from the United States Department of Agriculture in Salt Lake City developed a method to predict next year’s weevil damage by counting adult weevils per square foot in fall hay fields. The study shows thresholds from 44 weevils per sq ft for no damage to 16 weevils per sq ft for possible damage, with weather and field conditions shaping outcomes.
