A major blaze Sunday destroyed the Woodard warehouse and adjacent structures in Vernal, threatening nearby buildings including Basin Chevrolet. Firemen with limited equipment fought flames for over four hours as wind spread embers, with damage estimated at 40 dollars. Insurance covered both Woodard and another building, and local volunteers aided in containment while curious onlookers hampered efforts. Sparks also set fires at two nearby homes.

Sad Funeral for NaVar Freeman Held on Saturday
Funeral services for 18 year old NaVar Freeman were held Saturday at 4:00 pm in the Vernal second ward chapel. Bishop John Hart and Principal H Grant Veat spoke, with other local clergy and educators offering tributes. Attending were Uintah High School sophomores, MTA juniors, and classmates who served as escorts and honored the memory. Interment followed in Vernal Cemetery with pallbearers Keith Wellman Jep Oaks Dan Price Boyd Hall Glen Cooper and Austin Haws, honorary pallbearer Kenneth Sowards. NaVar, born July 19, 1929 in Salt Lake, died June 17 in a Salt Lake hospital. She is survived by her parents, a brother Clell, and Conia Mar. Short services were held at Larkin Mortuary prior to the funeral.

Band School at Loganto Commence on June 29
More than 200 band students from the intermountain states have enrolled for the 11th annual session of the band school beginning Monday June 29 at the Utah State Agricultural College. Under Prof A R McAllister the program rotates two equal bands and concludes with joint finals. Recognition awaits longtime participants with certificates and medals at closing exercises.

Opening Dance At New Showelter Garage July 1
An opening dance at the new Showelter Motor garage and service station will be held Wednesday July 1. Visitors will tour the building and view the new equipment and cars. The $15000 modern white and red structure includes a 14 by 60 by 75 foot shop, a 24 by 34 foot showroom, plate glass windows, central furnace, and cooling air. Two large motor pumps and two emergency pumps are fronted by three driveways enabling entry through one door and exit through the opposite side. Albert Anderson supervised construction and Glen Findlayson led the architectural work.

Uintah County Band Concerts Begin Saturday Evening
Band concerts will be held every Saturday afternoon at the County Courthouse at 500 o clock in the evening starting this Saturday June 27. Lloyd Winn director of Uintah high school band says the City Council will present a picture show ticket to each band member after the concerts. Brigadier General Sweeney of Sor. Douglas praised the Vernal CCC camp during a recent inspection visit. A letter to Captain Colums, signed by Captain Keith Tatom, reported the general found the Vernal camp in excellent condition and urged continued high standards. Car Overturns in Strawberry Valley Injures Three
Returning Saturday morning from the Mother City Frank P Wellman and son Keith with Sundquist narrowly escaped death when their car struck a soft shoulder and overturned. Wellman suffered a fractured right leg while Sundquist sustained head injuries and Keith Wellman had minor cuts and bruises. The accident happened on a sharp curve in Strawberry Valley near Daniels.

Burlington Bus Station Moves to New Location
