State Supreme Court Affirms McNaughtan Sentence
John E MecNaughtan former principal of Vernal Central school was convicted of altering marks on six sheep in 1933. The Utah Supreme Court affirmed the lower court verdict. Judge Turner sentenced him to one to 19 years in state prison. A petition for a new trial was denied. The decision was announced by Chief Justice Mann and filed May 29 19. Four of five justices concurred with Justice Wolfe dissenting.

NaVar Freeman of Vernal died at 8 30 am after a critical operation at a Balt Lake hospital following two mastoid surgeries. Born July 19, 1920 in Bast Lake City, she is survived by her parents, a brother Cleo, and a sister Donna Mat. Funeral services were held Saturday at 4 o'clock in the Vernal Second Ward Chapel, directed by Bishop John Jr.

Jerry Murray 63 president of the Ashley Reservoir association and supervisor of reservoir work at Long Park was seriously injured when a dead tree toppled in high winds. He suffered a broken spine four broken ribs a punctured lung and a compound fracture of his lower right leg. He was taken to Valley hospital with other bruises as workers rushed to aid him after the tree fell on him while he walked under it.
