Preliminary construction on U S 40 between Vermal and the Colorado state line is underway with a 200 ton gravel plant arriving from the factory to be set up two miles east of Naples. Quarter Million To Be Spent On Strawberry Highway Plan
The State road commission prepared a $2,853,449 annual highway program beginning July 1 for U.S. Bureau of Public Roads approval. It includes $1,898,000 new construction under federal aid, $256,000 federal lands, $418,009 secondary lands, and $290,243 grade separation and crossing devices. Federal aid and secondary road figures include state matching up to 23 percent. federal government funds cover lands board and grade separations entirely. Several old-program projects await state funds, with hopes to contract most new projects before year end. A major U.S. 40 share is planned, including oiling Vernal to Colorado and re-aligning between Daniel’s Canyon and Fruitland, with Uintah Basin awaiting the long-sought improvement. Funeral for William Richardson in Vernal Second Ward Chapel
Funeral services for William Richardson Sr 23 will be held Friday at 4 00 p m in the Vernal Second Ward chapel. He died at his daughter Rose Walker s home Wednesday night. Richardson a Utah pioneer born April 4 1954 in Glen Scotland survived by his wife Jane and four daughters, including Annie Kirk and Kate Ashboth, and a long list of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment at Vernal Memorial Park under Swain Funeral Home. Attorney B Pope of Provo attended Vernal events Saturday.

A feud between two Mexican sheep camps near Duchesne led to the killing of a sheep herder. Highway patrolman Jack Young observed the scene as officers arrested Crug after the shooting. The dispute between Cruz and Archuletta escalated Thursday, with threats alleged before Cruz headed to his camp and Archuletta followed. The case remained under investigation as authorities handled the aftermath.
