Yampa River Expedition to Leave July 1
A group of experienced rivermen led by Dr. Russell G. Frazier will descend the Yampa River on a ten day archaeological photographic and fishing expedition sponsored by the Deseret News of Salt Lake City. The party will depart July 1 from Salt Lake City, stop overnight in Vernal, travel to Sunbeam Colorado, and conclude in Green River Utah. Boy Scout Camporee Held at Ashley Creek Canyon Monday Night
About 75 scouts and fifteen leaders attended the Camporee at Morgan Merkley pasture on Monday. Every troop was represented except Jensen Naples and Tridel. Haying kept older Scouts away, but the program at the campfire gathering was greatly enjoyed as the group hiked in from Spring Creek flats.

Lloyd Winn Leaves Uintah for Heber City Teaching Job
Lloyd Winn, eight year Uintah high music instructor, will leave for Heber City next fall to teach at Wasatch County High School. His successor at Uintah is not yet announced. Under his direction the band grew from 23 to 110 members and earned high ratings at Price, Provo, and nationally this year. He also led girls glee club, choir, and future farmer band members, and contributed as a community worker with musical programs. He graduates from University of Utah and studied at Sherwood Music School. Until September he will teach in the valley, then divide duties between west side and Ashley Valley communities.

Theft of Auto Lands Ex-Con in Grip of Law
Alvin Wallace, an ex-convict, was arrested by Sheriff J. Emery Johnson after abandoning a stolen automobile near Leeton. Wallace had been hired at the Whiterocks Fish Hatchery in Roosevelt and admitted a ten year prior car theft. Justice W. Henderson bound him over to district court for trial.

Hoover Stops in Vernal on Way to Coast

Daylight Salute Sets Vernal Fourth of July Events
Vernal prepares for a big Fourth of July celebration with a daylight salute and multiple events from sunrise to night. A Vernal cooking school at Uintah High School on Friday and Saturday includes prizes such as a Westinghouse roaster, electric toaster, and baskets of food. Stake Atronic Priesthood Held Outing Tuesday
Nearly 380 Atronie priesthood members of Uintah stake attended the outing at the Morgan Merkley ranch in Ashley Creek canyon on Tuesday. The event commemorated the restoration of the priesthood on May 15, 1890 and was postponed one month due to bad weather. A baptismal service presided by a Priest and various games and a program were featured, with Boy Scouts from Camporese Jalso attendance.

Overburden Removal Planned at Dinosaur Monument
J W Wallace regional director of National Park Service visited Dinosaur National Monument with Arthur Lindberg regional inspector and their wives to announce overburden removal by September. WPA support will add 20 women, enabling 100 workers in two 50 man shifts to finish by September, freeing fossil bones for bas relief work led by Dr Barnum Brown after overburden is cleared. Transfer of four dump trucks from Grand Junction will aid the operation, expanding the wall length by about 100 feet as part of the exhibit.
