New Ouray Bridge Bids Opened Tuesday

Bids opened Tuesday at the Bureau of Public Roads in Salt Lake City for the Ouray Green River bridge. Low bidder L C Stevenson of Roosevelt offered 173000 against an estimated 136000, 27 percent above the estimate. Alternate bids covered prestressed cement or wheel girder flyespan construction. a sale of the bridge is vital to local gas projects.

Zoning Books On Sale Soon

Uintah County commissioners announced new zoning ordinance books will be available next week. Copies are on file in the county clerk's office. The meeting also noted orders for voting booths and flags for the November election.

Moon Lake Elects Awarded Contract for Observatory Site

Moon Lake Electric Association won a contract to supply power to a proposed U S Air Force Seismological Observatory near Vernal Texas Instrument Co of Dallas is the prime contractor for the project. Moon Lake will construct about 3 miles of single phase line to serve the site about 6 miles southwest of Vernal with a 35 KW load. Two local 17 year old youths were injured when a speeding car wrecked near Jensen bridge at 12 30 p m The occupants Dale Lee and Wayne Bascom suffered contusions and abrasions and were treated in local hospitals. The driver was released Tuesday and Bascom Wednesday. The car reportedly was involved in a racing incident prior to the crash.

The Chamber of Commerce annual installation outing will be held at Vernal Rod and Gun Club Monday at 8 pm. New officers to be installed include Hoyat B. Henderson president Glade M. Vernal Youth 16 Hurt After Bus Scooter Collision

A 16 year old Vernal resident, David Schaefermeyer, was hospitalized after his motor scooter hit a Volkswagen bus at Mh West and Main Street. The bus driver, Juanita Burton Moore, 28, Naples, ran a red light, resulting in $75 damage to each vehicle. Moore cited for failure to stop. youth cited for no driver’s license. City Police Officer Jack Lent investigated.

Ashley Forest Tops Federal Fund Share in Utah Programs

Ashley National Forest will receive the largest portion of federal expenditures in Utah for the fiscal year starting July 1. Washington report says the federal government will spend 5,173.00 dollars, with Ashley receiving 948.00. Funds cover road construction camp site development and insect control among other projects.

Burglars Steal $20 in Stamps At Stake Center

A burglary of the LDS Stake Center Sunday night saw $20 worth of four cent stamps stolen along with minor property damage. The break in was found by Bishop Alvin G Bowden of Vernal and Ward Monday at 11 p.m. Entry was from the boiler room door, with matches spotted earlier and attempts to jimmy the bishopric door. Investigating officers were Chief Claudius A Banks, Jack Lent, and Ray Gee. arrests are pending.

Two Vernal Girls Face Action On Stolen Car

Two Vernal girls told police they planned to run away but stole a car and rolled it into a borrow pit 500 feet down from a barrow pit near Duchesne. The 16 year old driver lost control. minor injuries reported. They were arrested Monday and charged with car theft. driver charged with reckless driving.

Ute Sun Dance Opens July 13 At Whiterocks

The first annual Ute Sun Dance begins Friday July 13 at the Sun Dance Grounds near Whiterocks. Dancers will fast for four days and nights with sunrise ceremonies each morning. Chiefs Johnson Wopsock and Boyce Arcep were chosen this year. Families move in to camp days before the event and photography is forbidden during the dance. A second Sun Dance is set for August 17 with chiefs Tommy Sonsonteut and Dol Uver Pigeon.

Vernal Wy Highway Plans Advance With Forest System Contracts

The Vernal Chamber of Commerce heard details on nearly three million dollars in contracts for completing the forest scenic highway from Vernal to Man lg and linking with major Wyoming routes. Supervisor Andrew R. McConkle outlined progress on bridges across Cart Creek and Green Hyer, oiling the Red Canyon Overlook road, and ongoing and upcoming contracts from Greendale to Engle Creek, Burnt Creek, and Manila south to the forest boundary. Plans include facilities at Flaming Gorge recreation sites and new boat ramps, picnic areas, and a possible hotel and service station near Mustang Ridge.

Driver E. Smith Funeral Service Planned Friday

Edwin Smith 72 died Tuesday at Vernal Utah hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 am in the Vernal 4th Ward chapel with burial at Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery. He owned the Ute Indian Trading Post in Vernal and was active in the LDS Church and Uintah community. Survivors include his widow two sons two daughters and several relatives.

Association Chief Lauds Utah Firemen at the 54th annual convention in Vernal. Albert Barrus praised volunteers from diverse walks of life, highlighted readiness for night and blizzard duty, and urged expanded training programs. New officers include William G. Ruff as president and five year trustee J Vernon Peterson. Five buses carried delegates to Flaming Gorge Dam for the event.

Recreation Area Bids Invited In Antelopa Flat
