Scout Camp Opens Monday at High Uinta
Two hundred scouts and leaders from Vernal Duchesne and Roosevelt districts of Utah National Parks Council will open the 1958 High Uinta Scout Camp at McKee Draw on Monday. Camp director Valving Gaudio assisted by planner chair Tigle Molgate will lead a large senior staff including James E Bacon Spencer Squire and LaTrell Anderson with many others handling health safety hospitality and activities as morning advancement work aims to award second class and first class badges. Six junior staff explorers from Arcadia Roosevelt Maeser and Verna join the week of games merit badges and field sports for a busy program slated to continue through the day with page 8 continuation.

Utah School Budget Hearing Set For June 30

Vernal Men Hurt After Fall From Oil Tank Roof
Two Vernal men, Ernest Caldwell and his son Dale aged 13, were injured Tuesday at 3:30 pm when they fell 16 feet into an oil storage tank during an inspection. They had unbolted part of the roof to repurpose the tank as an incinerator at the local lumber mill.

Vernal crowds filled downtown venues over Thursday to Saturday for the Race Meet and Pony Express from Green River Wyoming. A $4000 purse race showcased Log owned by Roy Showalter versus Holey Sox owned by Woodey B Searle, with Holey Sox winning by two lengths under jockey Kay Conyers, a 17 year old from Hayden. Calf roping and Shetland pony events drew families and local youngsters into the weekend festivities.
