Pioneers Reach Grand Tae Land and Camp Banquet
The May journey of the pioneers led them to Grand Taeland where a buffalo hunt entertained a dozen horsemen and as many footmen. They slaughtered one bull two cows and six calves with meat shared in camp and Brigham Young urged restraint to preserve buffalo herds. Charles Beaumont visited from Fort Laramie delivering letters to Winter Quarters as boards marked distances. The group crossed the Platte and neared Green River facing fever and a fierce crossing with rafts and a major mountain trek ahead.
