Burglary spate hits Vernal area mid spring

A string of burglaries in Vernal during May and early June targets businesses and homes. McRae suffer break ins with tools, typewriters, drugs, a stereo, and an antique gun collection missing. Police urge dead bolt locks and property marking. crime prevention films and speakers are offered statewide. Brown water and canal-water disputes add local concerns alongside a report of a spray plane crash with minor injuries.

Local groups back White River Dam project in Vernal

Plans Presented for Dinosaur Garden Display

A preliminary study outlines the Delbert Porter dinosaur collection display to be built west of the Field House museum as the Prehistoric Nature Trail. Utah State Parks plans a 10-foot raised trail, swamp area, concrete walks, and a fenced center with access through the Field House. Estimated cost is 458000 dollars. Community funding and public comment are welcomed as the project progresses toward possible Outdoor Recreation matching funds and eventual placement of the dinosaurs purchased for 130000 dollars by the state.

Vernal City to issue tax notes with low bid from Zions First National

Vernal City will borrow 100000 in tax income notes for next fiscal year. Zions First National Bank was the low bidder at 3.40 percent, with Walker Bank at 3.55 and First Security Bank at 3.625. Zions Bank bid accepted. In other business the council approved beer licenses for Valara's Produce and Matt & Jeff's Sandwich Shop, denied Triangle Ql Ca for access concerns, approved ARR Amusement arcade, and a pawn shop provision. A canal group discussed drought policy, VelRal City water conservation rebates, and water allocation priorities. Outside watering for Air Village was shifted to weekends.

Injunction blocks Utah oil shale lease payments

U S District Judge Willis W Ritter halted Interior Department enforcement of no Utah oil shale tract leases WA and UB. Phillips Petroleum Sunoco Energy Development and Sahin Petroleum seek to avoid a 24 million bonus payment and faced potential voiding of claims. About 50 million spent so far. 80 million may be due to Utah. Escrow holds funds pending appeal. Judge noted clear danger leases could be voided and insurers could lose 24 million if payments continue.

Tridell Lapoint water bond passes in regional vote

The Tridell and Lapoint water bond election approved a revenue bond up to 250000 with 163 votes for and 51 against and a general obligation bond up to 15040 with 148 for and 58 against. Total project cost is about 1138000. Unofficial results show precinct splits and the entire Board of Trustees reelected: Clinton C. Harrison, Marvin Huber, DeVon McKee, Duane McKee, Loris L. Wooley.

Budget hearings scheduled for Vernal City and Uintah District

Budget hearings will be held in the next two weeks for Vernal City and Uintah School District. Vernal City meeting to discuss the 4077 78 budget is set for Wednesday June 23 at 7 30 p m at the city office. Uintah School District budget session is slated for Thursday June 30 at the School Board office.

Uintah teachers approve 1977 78 salary contract

Uintah County Education Association and Uintah Board of Education reach agreement on the 1977 78 contract. Beginning teachers start at 9000 dollars annually, a 4.65 percent raise, with higher insurance costs and experience increments. Public invited to review proposed budgets and provide input as costs rise 7.59 percent. The board also funds lunch time for elementary teachers and reimbursement for large school teachers via increased activity ticket revenues per Dr Wayne Heid.

Plane lands wrong side up near Diamond Mountain

Alger of Kimo Utah piloted a Cessna 488 that crashed upside down in a county road after downdraft midmountain. He suffered severe head injuries and was treated at Umlah County Hospital. Traffic halted two hours as responders and federal aeronautics officials investigated the scene.
