A northbound oil well logging truck overturned on county road 1.2 miles south of Ouray around 12:30 am Saturday. Driver William L. Shurley 25 Roosevelt was pinned and cut free, Gary Hanson 27 Roosevelt was thrown through the windshield. The unit, owned by Dresser Atlas, suffered a $100,000 loss. Both men incurred serious injuries and were hospitalized. Shurley later returned from Salt Lake City.

Vernal Volunteer Fire Department answered Saturday evening to a shed and corral fire at the Lyle Bird residence in Lapoint after nearly three weeks without a blaze. On Monday firefighters were called to a haystack and shed fire at Marvel Smain's residence at 4255 South Fifth East, burning about 40 tons of hay and destroying a shed valued at 4,000 dollars. the blaze began around 12:40 PM.
