Coming Fathers and Sons Outing Planned by Mutual Board
The Mutual board will meet early next week to arrange finals for the fathers and sons outing set for July 17 to 22. Oscar Kirkham or Dr. John H. Taylor, or both from Salt Lake City, are expected to attend. Kirkham led the Boy Scouts group to Europe two years ago. Taylor is Scout Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of Utah. With many sons signed up, Trout Creek camp is the target for a happy, contented gathering until they return.

Large Shipment Hides and Pelts Made at Price
John N. Davis returned from Price after overseeing a shipment of over 50,000 pounds of hides and pelts gathered in the Ashley valley and Reservation sections. The consignment filled two and a half cars. Davis received 23 cents per pound for sheep pelts and 12 cents per pound for hides.

Mrs. Jennie Lewis wife of J L Lewis and daughter of E B Gurr died June 6 after a post operative illness. Funeral held Saturday at the second ward chapel with Bishop George H Wilkins presiding. Survived by husband daughter Helen eight son Lara her parents and several siblings. Interment in Vernal Cemetery.

The arraignment of Sam Lone Bear or Cactus Pete Peyote chief before Justice H Walter Woolley occurred Tuesday. He faced a statutory offense charge, bound over for preliminary hearing on $1000 bond, unable to post, placed in Sheriff Lafe Richardson’s custody. Hearing set for next Tuesday at 10 o clock. Vernal Gun and Rifle Club Elects Officers
Monday evening at the Commercial club rooms the Vernal Gun and Rifle club held its annual election of officers. L. H. Allan was re elected president Byron Thomas captain and Henry Millicam secretary treasurer. It is expected D. H. Madsen will visit Vernal soon to discuss matters with the club. Captain Thomas will start practice on the rifle range and may shoot some traps. There are 70 active members with plans for a dance at the Orpheus and hopes for Mr Madsen’s presence.

The Martin L. Box gambling case was dismissed after Sheriff Lara Richardson failed to locate J. E. Husband known as Ladther Breeches. Box had been arrested last winter with Husband as principal witness. dismissal occurred at the March term due to lack of city jurisdiction over a felony. He was re-arrested and bound over by Justice H. Walter Woolley. The first hearing featured a jury mostly of women, a Uintah county first. Prosecution efforts to locate Husband continued with no success. Hasbang testified last spring but could not testify. The dismissal does not bar re-arrest on the same charge.

He reports that assessment work on his oil shale claims is finished and many claims will be patented this year. The district court heard a two day trial over the larceny of a steer claimed by A Owings of Roosevelt. Legion Boy Makes Transcontinental Trip Across U S
Donald Chase, publicity committee member of the Dunkle Post American Legion Reno Nevada formerly city editor of the Nevada State Journal rode his bicycle from Rockerville to Vernal. He plans a 4800 mile trek to New York and Boston in four months returning to Reno by year’s end. He has ridden 926 routes in 12 days and carried a pack with blanket and food. He waded the Duchesne river and met with Post Commander H. E. Rich at Vernal and left toward Squirt Creek on Wednesday night.
