Bush Drilling Company of New Mexico prepared to haul uranium ore from a twelve claim field at the south edge of Davis Ward. First filings in 1950 and a 240 acre area cover the site with drilling already totaling 12,000 feet in 250 holes. Tests by an Atomic Energy Commission team at Grand Junction are pending. Proved pocket shows 20,000 pounds of ore. T. H. Tinsley directs drilling. William Nash Ovington owns the firm.

The Vernal event week opens with a rodeo and race meet beginning next Thursday. A fatal accident involving a 1954 station wagon and a trailer occurred near Vernal, injuring a woman who was hospitalized briefly. The crash, traveling east at about 1 pm, caused the car to roll and the trailer to overturn. the victim’s husband, Spider Turner, and their year-old child sustained minor bruises. No citations issued. A second, unrelated crash two miles south of Vernal on a county road involved a 1947 car driven by Faye Goodrich and a 1952 pickup. no injuries or charges were reported.
