Softball and Summer Program Include County Activities

Uintah County Recreation Association appoints Grant Moser as summer program director. Church softball opened with Ashley beating Fruchesne 0-5 and Vernal Third Ward topping Bonanza 7-6. Fifteen Uintah County Boys Chosen To Attend Boys State Meet

Fifteen Uintah County youths have been selected to attend the annual Boys State Meet at Camp Williams from July 10 to 18. Utah Boys State Inc, an American Legion Americanization activity, sponsors, with Vernal American Legion Post No. 11 arranging transportation. Picked for high scholarship and leadership are Walter BicCay, Clair Hop Jr, and Dilworth Rust among others.

New Phillips Station to Hold Grand Opening

A new Phillips service station will hold its grand opening on Friday and Saturday next week at Second Fast and Main. Operated by Dallas C. Nickell, it is known as Nickell's Phillips Service and features modern design, flye p' was tet Beit Helft rest rooms and parking. The station cost about $53 to construct and will offer opening bids and a celebration for children on the bench. Nickell, a World War I and Korean War veteran, served 3 1/2 years in WWI and 15 months in Korea.

Gardens Freeze As Temperatures Dip In Valley

Old man weather hit Ashley Valley last Thursday night with a cold wave that froze nearly every garden in the area and damaged alfalfa and other crops. Most garden owners reported tomato destruction and frost in streaks across other vegetables. A few gardens were unscathed. Frontier Airline reports weekly temperatures: May 27 48, May 29 72, May 31 28, June 1 18, June 3 25.

Nine young ladies have announced intent to seek the Vernal Rodeo Queen title. In Vernal last Thursday and Friday the Uintah Bass Junior livestock Show and Sale awarded 12 000 in prize money and total sales of 22 927. Douglas Hall, 16, earned two grand champion honors for his fat steer Gallara and plus over 2 000 dollars, the highest prices in the show’s history.
