Rangely Deep Test Well Shot With Nitro-Xycerine

The Rangely oil field deep test well by California company was shot Tuesday in the Weber sands at about 5000 feet. Eight shots totaling 725 pints of nitroglycerine were lowered in a string and set off simultaneously. Oil sands are about 87 feet thick here. the well has drilled deeper without oil yet. After new casing and mud clearance, a substantial oil yield is expected, though natural flow versus pumped output remains uncertain.

Superintendent Frank Hatch said leaks along the line likely come from drainage around the pipe and opened joints, noting only a few locations remain.

Brief Illness Takes Life of John F. Evans

John F. Evans 89, longtime stockman of Ashley Valley and Bush Creek area, died after kidney trouble and Brights disease at Vernal Tuesday evening. Born August 16 1873, he moved to Ashley Valley with uncle Edmond Etzis and was a Bank of Vernal director and Coprac Critto association counselor. Survived by wife Gladys Middleton, son Wilford II, daughter Laura, three stepchildren, and siblings. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm in Second Ward chapel with speakers H Walter Woolley and Wm H Siddoway.

Funeral Services Held in Naples For Mary Shaw

Funeral services for Mary A H Shaw were held at the home of Mrs Eden Powell last Thursday afternoon at 2 pm with Travall inviting presiding. The music came from a double mixed quartet with selections including Rest Sweet Rest and Beyond. Speakers were Charles Wrext A G Goodrich and M M Fatty. Interment followed in Vernal cemetery with grave dedication by Chas iFL Pierce. Mary A H Shaw born Barkershaw England November 17 1864 came to Vernal in 1909 and had lived with her sister Mrs Eden Powell since then. Heart trouble caused her death May 30 1933.
