Hod Rupte Funeral Held Here Tuesday

Hod Rupte born April 2 188? Island Park homestead. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Vernal First ward chapel conducted by Fuller Remington. Interment at Vernal Memorial Park followed by Swain Funeral Home arrangements. Survived by widow Lilly Taylor two daughters Wanda and Bille Unterman mother May O Ruple and two sisters. Vernal Lions Host Meeker Club Friday Luncheon

Meeker Lions visited Vernal for a Friday luncheon at the Commercial Hotel. President Hugh W. Colton presided as a large Meeker turnout enjoyed a fine program. Most Lions headed home after the meal, with a few staying overnight. Mr. and Mrs. Haller Witbeck of Meeker, formerly Vernal residents, joined the group.

Pacific Advertising Clubs Convention Heads to Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City hosts the annual Pacific Advertising Clubs Association convention from June 13 to 17. Executives from the northwest, British Columbia and Alaska are expected, with many visitors planning Utah sightseeing. Merchants statewide indicate attendance to study advertising methods and public service.

Vernal Woman Presents National Auxiliary Head Visit

Eva Ashton national committeewoman and former Utah auxiliary president introduced Mrs. C. W. Hohn national president of the American Legion Auxiliary during an official visit to Walstrand Salt Lake City. City officials and Utah veterans leaders attended as Mrs. Hahn spoke and toured with department and state officers. Mrs. Hahn, chosen national president at the Cleveland convention, travels the country promoting Americanism child welfare and rehabilitation.

Recreational Plan Outlined Under WPA for Uintah

Coach Frank Wright of Uintah high school named recreation supervisor for Uintah county. plan outlines WPA effort with three divisions, softball leagues already started, four workers assigned, and two main directors to be placed in Tridell and Aval on or Randlett. Judge Gives Pen Sentence for Theft of Wire

Judge Abe W Turner sentenced three defendants for copper wire theft from Utili Power and Lipi company at Pack Allan coal mine. Gale Aterander 19 Milford Galloway 21 got six months in county jail with six months suspended and $100 monthly payments. Hughie Galloway 25 received one to five years in state penitentiary. Crew Leaves for Blue Mountain to Fight Crickets

In Uintah County, 25 men led by C. P. Mippe depart Thursday morning to battle Mormon crickets. Dust and poison will be spread, with traps used to capture clusters on sage brush and rocks. The operation aims to halt vegetation destruction and may continue through June. A Colorado camp begins about 50 miles away, with workers to follow.

Roosevelt Men to Hold Riot at Uintah Canyon next weekend June 5 and 6 in Little Park. Free heat barbeque and coffee for visitors. program includes State Fish and Game speakers, story tellers, music, and a canyon dance. Sunday features Roosevelt versus Vernal baseball, trap shooting for a perpetual cup, and assorted contests for all ages.

Hamaker Sentenced to Three Years in State Court

A World War veteran and father of four minors, Hamaker received a suspended three year sentence. He recently arrived from Colorado, and his children were removed from his custody and will be placed in Colorado homes. He must remain in the court's jurisdiction and away from his children until further decree.

Vernal man dies in Idaho Falls Idaho

Mrs Vern Olsen received word from Myrtle Kendall Alder that Dallas E Alder formerly of Vernal died in Idaho Falls Idaho. Details are sparse. Mrs Alder is in hospital. Alder, 37, was a familiar figure in Vernal after living there several years. Four children survive.

Proposed City Building Gets President's OK

The President approved the proposed City office and museum, with construction to begin once workers are available. Mayor R. C. Cooper announced no funds yet for the waterworks extension and that the CCC camp would provide labor for an asphalt road if the city covers gasoline costs.

National Legion Head Visits Uintah Basin

National Legion Commander Harry W. Colmery will dedicate the new Legion Chateau in Roosevelt and address Witbeck Post No 11 members and Legion Auxiliary in a meeting this Thursday evening followed by a banquet for Legion and Auxiliary members. Representatives from Duchesne Uintah Osburn Emery Utah and Grand counties will attend the ceremonies. A public meeting is planned at 7 p m in the Roosevelt ward hall and Colmery will travel from Evanston Wyo to Duchesne June 4 with a large Ogden meeting set for June 8.

Memorial service canceled by heavy rain at Dinosaur Wedona Monument

Severe rain prevented the Second Annual Memorial Services at the Dinosaur Wedona Monument in Vernal from taking place. Archdeacon William Bulkley and Rev Willard Spence were set to speak, with about 500 expected attendees from Myton Roosevelt and other areas. Mrs Earl Douglass sent a note read aloud by the committee, praising Dr Bart Douglass and the monument dedicated to his quarry legacy.

Bridge Over Ashley Creek Rebuilt by Vernal Camp

County commissioners voted to rebuild the Ashley Creek bridge with Vernal CCO Camp handling the construction and the county supplying materials. High waters washed out the structure. The meeting also covered tax adjustments involving Harrison estate and several individuals, veteran exemptions filed, land sales, and outlines for a summer recreational program funded by local and federal sources.

Lewis W. Duvall Funeral Set for Saturday

Funeral services for Lewis Weaver Duvall age 73 will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Naples Word Chapel. Bishop Lovell Manwaring will preside. Duvall died at his son’s home after a brief illness. He was born February 19, 1862 in Wilkinson County and lived in Colorado and Wyoming before settling in the West. Survived by widow Henrietta M. Duvall four sons Lewis Alexander Gusher Robert Price Albert James Vernaty Hardee John of Los Angeles two sisters Honest G. Bough and another sister with last address unknown.
