Mormon Markers Aid Surveyors
In 1888 a ten foot granite monument on a hill above the Thompson River in southern Iowa commemorated Mormon pioneers who died 1846 48. A Coast and Geodetic Survey team recently located it as a triangulation intersection, marking the site in Mt Pisgah Cemetery Union County Iowa. The marker aids map making and boundary work, though the monument bears little visible sign of the survey team.
