The Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District with Extension Service and others will conduct an August 7 tour in Uintah County starting at Lapoint post office and Maeser store to show improved pastures grazing practices soil water and fertility effects. All teaching positions in Uintah School District are filled with twenty teachers and principals hired in summer.

108 Jixplorers Leave for High Uinta Wilderness Trek

Explorer Scouts and leaders from Vernal Roosevelt Altamont Boneta Alt onah Arcadia Duchesne Gunnison Orem Provo Malden Iuka Spanish Fork Plessyant Grove Heber Huntington depart for the second annual Explorer High Uinta Wilderness Trek. Two trails, Eastern and Western, head to Kings Peak and other lakes with Swift Creek Junction as the return point. Expedition leaders include Thomas F Nowells Arden Evans and Stewart with Ronald Dye Karl Hobchinson Norman Lundell and Stutz guiding the two routes.

Noneshoe Tourney Postponed To August Ninth

Vernal horseshoe tournament has been postponed from August 2 to August 9 because of a softball division tournament. County recreation director Rondo Harmon said this week that all interested may register by calling 551 or report to the horseshoe courts 5 to 6 pm on the day of the event.

Vernal 3rd Senior softball edged Naples 109 after two overtimes to secure a spot in the regional playoffs at the ball park Wednesday night. Dick Kramer Wins Vernal Open in Narrow Margin

Dick Kramer clinched the Vernal Open at the local fairway contest with a two round total of 136 after a costly one stroke penalty on Sunday. He edged Jack Siold by one stroke and led through the back nine with a 33 for a firm finish, while Dean Candland and Ralph Emery trailed. Montitime Ridd started with a lead but faded to a 141, taking top amateur honors as Emery tied for third with 140.

27th UBIC Parade Opens Uintah Basin Convention

The 27th UBIC annual parade opens Wednesday at 6 pm in Roosevelt sponsored by Kiwanis with John Chas el as chairman. The parade repeats Thursday at 9 am and winners are announced at the opening general session. A Wednesday evening band concert and an introductory session feature Mrs Parley Rawlings and the UBIC queen. Mayor Kenneth Ro Aycock welcomes, and Salt Lake entertainer Vin Peterson plus Brenda Mighaccid entertain. The All Indian Pageant Hawatha features 60 to 70 Ute members.
