War Prisoners Help Relieve Ogden Manpower Shortage

Francis Feltch Appointed Lion Zone Chairman

Francis Feltch, owner of the Utah Auto Court and Majin Thea, appointed by district Lion officers as zone chairman over the Vernal Roosevelt and Duchesne clubs. Oaks Park A Popular Fishing Resort in Gue rinta Mountains

Oaks Park, a popular fishing resort on Burk Vesture reservoir near Ashley Valley, covers a small lake surrounded by pine mountains. The reservoir, completed two years ago for Ashley Valley Reservoir Company, is overseen by the late Robert Hunting and Leon P Christenson as engineers. The company owns the camp area and boats, with the dam forming a major irrigation system. Over a hundred people visited recently, and fishing is strong with fly and boat fishing available. William Helms Sr. serves as watchman and manages the camp operations.

Inquest Held on Death of Indian at Whiterocks

An inquest convened Sunday morning to examine the death at Whiterocks of an unnamed Indian. Coroner and jury, with interpreter Herman Part, heard that a rifle fired from a .520 Winchester caused the fatal wound. The jury returned that the deceased died on the day of the tragedy after a shooting incident involving personal safety concerns.

Range Fire Near Bitter Creek Ends After Long Battle

A 17 man crew extinguished a 350 acre range fire on West Asphalt Wash near Bitter Creek in the county’s southern area after nearly 24 hours of fighting. The blaze, started by a cigarette from a plane and sighted Saturday, caused about 27704 in expenses with reseeding estimated at 50000. Drivers Get Inspection Call

Owners of vehicles with O and T gasoline ration coupons were reminded Monday by Superintendent P G L Dew of the state Highway patrols that they have only until Saturday to comply with the annual inspection. There will be no extension of the deadline. These vehicles are considered the ones most essential to the war effort and for that reason it is doubly important that they be in spectra so any defects can be corrected. The last day for B card holders is August 31 and for A B card holders September 30.

Oaks Park Reservoir Extends Water Supply to September

Reservoir engineer Leon Christensen reports Oaks Park, Twin Lakes, Goose Lake, and Long Park reservoirs are sustaining Ashley Creek with a combined 80 second feet for ten days then 58 cfs. Storage totals reach 10,000 acre feet at season start, with about 6,000 at Oaks Park, extending irrigation for farms through the dry spell.

Lions and Jaycees plan rustic lodge timber project

Saturday Lions club and Junior Chamber of Commerce members meet at Vernal City office at 6am to travel to Allen sawmill Long Park. They will work over the weekend to obtain timber for a 30 by 50 foot rustic lodge at Merkley Park with a fireplace kit and orchestra pit. Lt William King Believed Captured After Daring German Raid

A World War II dispatch reports Lt William King of Vertal bailed out over German territory during a bombing raid on a U boat base at St Nazaire on June 28. His crew member Lt Ernest Watts witnessed the bailouts and debris, with King believed to be a prisoner of war.

Funeral services for Clell Burns held at Glines Funeral Home Wednesday July 20 followed his drowning Monday evening at Swog Park reservoir. Fire Burns Large Area In Rainbow Park Sunday

A Sunday fire in Rainbow Park along the Green River scorched over 3000 acres of winter grazing land before control was established at 8:30 p m and the fire was put out the following day. Campers are suspected. local observers and officials report involvement of camping parties near Rainbow Park and Black Mountain canyons.
