Price for Wool Hits New High in Wyoming
Wool prices in Rock Springs and nearby Wyoming towns set a new high as the government appraisal values for a pool of 195000 pounds were released by Jaymes Vicars of the Wyoming Cooperative Wool Marketing Association. Top price reached 69.59 cents per pound for choice quarter blood wool, with other grades including 59.60 cents for select French, and an overall average near 42.12 cents per pound, higher than a year ago.

Son of District Attorney Killed by Booby Trap at Fort Riley
Pvt Paul Oliver Dunford, 19, son of William Stanley Dunford and Mrs Willian Stanley Dunford of Provo, died after a booby trap accident at Fort Riley. He had been in the US Army two months and was among 195 men in an accelerated Cavalry Replacement course. Born July 8, 1974, in Izioa, he attended Provo High School and Brigham Young University. Surviving are his parents, a brother William Stanley Dunford Jr, and three sisters Marilyn Diane and Carol. The parents attended the funeral services Monday after arriving at Fort Riley.

Motorists urged to obtain gas ration books
Officials announced motorists must carry a current basic A book to access rationed gasoline. The book identifies all motorists and supplements monthly allowances, covering about 150 miles. Many have not applied for renewal and may face difficulty obtaining new rations unless they apply immediately at the local war price and rationing board.

Utah ordnance plant exceeds rated capacity in war effort
A Utah plant operated by Remington Arms under a cost plus fee contract reports output exceeding its rated capacity since opening. Production has cut costs by 75 percent for 30 caliber and 59 percent for 40 caliber ammunition. Women make up about 50 percent of the workforce and over 60 percent of production. The facility manufactures six ammunition types across two calibers, using a largely machine driven process with multiple safety and inspection steps.

The Legion Auxiliary with Mrs Ray Ashton and Mrs John Shigg as chairmen have completed plans for an outstanding program during the state convention. The opening session will be Friday at 2:00 pm at the First Ward chapel. Mrs Helen C Ander on department president will order the meeting and nominations for national executive committeewomen and department officers will be made. The Vernal still finish the muse at this session Friday at 5 pm. The Gold Star Mothers tea, a social highlight, will be at Abe Hatch home with Mrs Vern McCarrell as chairman. Led by Mrs Wm E Whitbeck and Mrs HA Tyzsck, Gold Star Mothers honored are Mrs Charlotte Perry, Mrs Persia McConkie, Mrs Fears Wolley of Tridell, and Mrs Elizabeth Wi beele. Saturday at Tall the past presidents breakfast will be held at the Scout House. Iras White is chairman. The second session will be at the First Ward Chapel beginning at 9:30 am. A luncheon will be held in the First Ward Chapel at noon Saturday, Mrs Olen A Lambert is in charge. The third session at the chapel will begin at 2 pm. A memorial service for deceased members and Gold Star mothers will be held under the direction of Mrs Lyte Lamph of Price. At the final session, trophies and awards will be presented by the department chairman and the election of a national committee. (Continued on Page Four)

Army Releases Wool For Civilian Use

Rustic Lodge Under Way At Merkley Park Site
Local Lions club and Junior Chamber of Commerce started work on a rustic lodge at Merkley Park last weekend. Volunteers gathered logs and lumber from Taylor Mountain and Long Park sawmill to build a clubhouse with a concrete dance floor, kitchen with running water, modern restrooms, and a fireplace. About 108 logs, 1500 feet of lumber, 16 fence poles and 20 posts were cut for the project, with finish expected after seasoning.

The state Highway Patrol granted an extra week for vehicle inspections due to a shortage of inspection stations and driver access. Drivers with uninspected cars must show proof of repairs and inspection by Aug 8 or risk tickets. Patrol warns that Aug 4 onward inspections without valid tag will be prosecuted.
