Grazers Elect Advisor Board For District 8

In Vernal Utah district action at Uintah high school, cattle and sheep men formed eleven grazing precincts under the Taylor grazing act terms with Indian department staff aid. Fire wipes out shed behind Snyder home

A shed at the rear of the Herbert Snyder residence owned by E J Young Jr was destroyed by fire Friday night. The structure was nearly consumed when found and a breeze could have carried flames to nearby property.

Davis Pioneer Celebration Proves a Busy Pioneer Day

The Uintah county fairgrounds in Vernal hosted a Davis ward Pioneer Day celebration with a large crowd. Uintah High School band provided music and a Pony Express reenactment thrilled spectators. Vernal beat CCO camp 11 to 2 in a late ball game as pony rides races and contests entertained attendees throughout a clear day.

Arch ie Johnson Injured in Fall on Uintah Farmland

Archie Johnson a Uintah stake presidency counselor and United States Bank teller was seriously injured Friday evening when he fell across a hay manger while repairing a cow shed roof. He slipped and was thrown straddling the feed manger. a later hospital operation stopped bleeding from a broken artery and vein, and he is improving.

Eastern Utah Civie Clubs Push for Uintah Basin Roads

The Associated Civie Clubs of Eastern Utah met in Roosevelt to plan road improvements this summer. Delegates backed asphalt paving from the Utah Colorado line to Daniels Canyon and outlined labor requirements under government rules. A Salt Lake City visit with the Chamber of Commerce, Governor Blood, and the road commission was scheduled for July 26 to urge rapid development using Basin material and labor.

The body of Kenneth Phillips a Roosevelt resident who drowned July 1 at Ouray was recovered July 19 six miles below Ouray near the Green river where irrigation water was being pumped.

Mr and Mrs Fussman and Mrs Berhens of Lindsay California and Mrs George A Case of Jensen visited Vernal on Monday. The Fussmans have many friends in this area after living in Jensen for years and poor health prompted their move from Jensen.

Blue Mountain Rodeo Draws Record Crowd at Jensen

The fifth annual Blue Mountain Rodeo at Jensen Pioneer Day drew the largest crowd in Jensen history with about 1800 attendees, many from outside states. Local organizers Ed Lewis and Joe Haslem led a community event featuring 80 head of wild horses and top Jensen youth winners in calves and steers, sponsored by local talents.

FERA labor in Uintah County totals 111000 dollars

Uintah county FERA director O FR Lund reports that since FERA began in the county more than 111000 dollars in federal relief labor has been spent on projects including Vernal sewer work Avalon school sidewalks Central UHS and Alterra roadwork and paving with additional city and county funds bringing the value to about 131000 dollars. Direct relief funds are separate from labor projects and provide no direct return.

Gravel Surfacing Project Near Massadona Underway

Gravel crushing for gulfaring near Massadona began July 18 at Elk Springs Colorado. Northwest Engineering will crush about 9000 tons at the Elk Springs pit and haul by truck for oiling, under Tom Ledgerwood’s supervision. Joseph Biskkup handles hauling and spreading. project lasts about three weeks on double shifts. The oiling extends west of Craig to Draper foot, with warm dry weather aiding work. Northwest Engineering recently finished a 10 mile oiling from Elk Springs to Massadena, and Garner Brothers-Craig Empire completed gravel surfacing east and west of Elk Springs.

Lumber Arrives For CCC Camp At Fair Grounds

Vernal receives a major lumber shipment for the CCC camp at the fairgrounds. Eight carloads totaling about 490000 feet fund construction of fourteen buildings including eight barracks halls an infirmary showers and admin quarters. Twenty men arrived July 14 to prep for about 230 full crew, with Captain Alva C Carpenter in charge and K T Atwell as engineer.

UBIC Program Draws Large Crowds With Talks on Water and Plans

At the August UBIC meeting in Uintah county speakers including A Theodore Johnson and Senator HG Calder outlined irrigation projects to store 7000 acre feet for Ashley Valley and to complete the Duck Pasture canal with 6000 more acre feet. County officials pledged support up to 23000 for road work and relief programs while planners pushed canal company cooperation for a broad water system benefiting thousands of acres.

Engineer Inspects Reservoir Sites in Uintah Basin

Forrest Luther appraiser drain age levee and irrigation division reconstruction finance corporation Cimarron Kas accompanied by his wife was in Vernal today. Luther surveyed the Chepita and Paradise Park reservoirs for RFC financing and was impressed by irrigation storage possibilities across the Uintah Basin. He plans to return in about six or seven weeks.
