Lapoint Tridell Secures Major Water Refinancing Loan

U S Representatives W K Grane of the Whiterocks Irrigation Company helped obtain a 250 000 loan from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to refinance debt at lower interest and fund construction. The refinancing includes a 25 000 older loan from Zion's Saving Bank at Salt Lake. Secretary Treasurer J C Hacking described a two year program to expand storage capacity. The project targets Chipeta Lake reservoir improvements and other storage works near the Whiterocks headwaters, benefiting farmers in Thidel and Lapoint.

Old Phonograph Records Drive By Legion Auxiliary

Uatah county division of the American Legion Auxiliary conducts a campaign to collect old phonograph records for armed forces. The goal is 37 500 000 records to be ground up and pressed into new recordings for men in camps aboard ships and overseas. Father and Daughter Degree Recipients at Local College

Joseph Bannes and Valenka Bannes, father and daughter of this city, completed studies at the Southern California College of Chiropractic and received the doctor of chiropractic degree with the 1942 graduating class. Commencement exercises were held in Los Angeles on July 2, as announced this week. Dr. Joseph Sannes was born in Christiania Norway in 1887 and moved to Utah with his parents, early Latter Day Saints converts, before they returned to their homeland.

Norwegian-Descent Utah Police Veteran Recalled

Father Ludwig Gannes was a cot ledge professor in Norway who edited a newspaper in Norwegian during his Utah sojourn. Their son Joseph chose America over the old country, returned to Utah, served on the Salt Lake police force, then moved with his wife to Vernal where they have lived for 23 years. George Stone Commissioned Second Lieutenant In Engineers

Los Angeles Youth Jailed for Bicycle Theft

A 17 year old from Los Angeles admitted stealing a bicycle parked behind a post office. Officers traced the youth to Roosevelt, then Myton, where he sold the wheel and paid the buyer with stolen money. He was found hiding near the Roosevelt water tower and taken to juvenile court after the recovery of the bicycle.

Denver Police Hold Three Girl Escapees From Ogden School

Three of seven girls who escaped from Utah State Industrial School were captured in Denver, announced by O W H Petersen assistant superintendent. Two others were arrested in Utah Basin last week. The Denver trio had hidden routes at the reservation but continued their flight. Two escapees remain at large with authorities holding tips on their locations.
