River Runner Bert Loper Missing After Grand Canyon Capsize
Search for 80 year old Bert Loper famed Colorado river runner continued on Wednesday. Vernal resident Loper was part of a nine person party in four boats when his craft capsized at 1 p.m. last Friday in the Grand Canyon and he was swept downstream.

State to Finish Main Street Work by July 20
Vernal city officials say a state road crew began resurfacing Main Street on July 6 and aims to complete all phases by July 20. The project runs from South West to 5th East, upgrading the highway to grade and oiling curb to curb, with asphalt unavailable due to plant limits. The work marks the second major Vernal area project in under a year following the Vernal Manila highway surfacing.

Vernal begins work on a $40,000 professional building on Main street west of the Main theatre. The Vernal Clinic will occupy the ground floor with 23 rooms. the second floor will be rented for offices. Concrete footings were poured last weekend and Campbell Construction Co. will start walls next Monday.

Official Explains Dealer Bonding At Utah Dealers Meet
Arnold M Seiler Salt Lake City administrator of the motor vehicle bonding commission spoke at the Duchesne Uintah chapter meeting in Vernal. He said the new used vehicle dealer bonding law protects buyers and dealers and licensing steps are near completion. The law took effect July 11 and association officers were elected Don Showalter president Albert Crumbo Roosevelt VP and W Fred Washburn secretary. Meetings alternate between Roosevelt and Vernal with next in Roosevelt August 11. The Glenn Coopers plan a two week vacation in Florida and hope to visit Mrs Cooper and Miss Cora Owens.
